Looking for opinions about the Vortek VG2 and the GRT MK2(?). What is your preference, and why?
Have any of you used both in the same AG?

Hi Sam, my comments below are about the ZRT kits from JM and the PG2 full guide kits from Vortek. I have not used a 2g kit from Vortek FYI. So this doesn't exactly answer your question....sorry. ::)
The JM kits are excellent quality and easy to install. They seem very durable and perform well. My ZRT kit in my D48 definitely reduced vibration and increased speed, but the shot cycle was still sharp and snappy, the rifle definitely moved a bit when firing. I had another d48 with a JM kit installed and it shot like a dream...905 fps with H&N Ftt .177 pellets very consistently. I could put 10 into a 3/4" hole at 18 yards from a non supported Field Target rest. I miss that rifle.
My experiences with Vortek kit's: definitely smoothed out the shot cycles of all of the rifles that I put them in. The rifles were much calmer and with a nice linear motion to the recoil. Both kits were not quite "drop in" and needed some guide re sizing before fitting perfectly. All of my Vortek kits lost a bit of power after a maybe 1500-2000 shots. ( Example, my diana 460 went from 27 FPE to 24 FPE,) But they always shot very well.
I have heard that Vortkek has worked on the problem and there are lots of happy customers now a days. Either way you can't go wrong.

JM "OS" kit......nice and tame and no funky lubes that go liquid and ruin your efforts.
Or..........Vortek kits ...but use Tar and moly.......dump the mystery lubes.
I have used and recommended Tom's kits for some time. I like the quality of the product.
But the supplied lubes should be avoided IMHO. Aside from that ,Great Stuff!

Sam I have had a JM kit in my old model 34 from 5 years ago. Well, it was bought new then and I soon installed a JM kit and unsure of the exact kit it was. What is did was smooth the shot cycle and really level that gun out to be a very great shooter. It even took away most twang from that spring. It was a .177 caliber.
Now in my Weihrauch HW97K I have now I installed a Vortek PG2 kit and it made that gun unbelievable to say the least. Smooth as gooey butter! The fps increased about 10 fps and the twang definitely all gone in that gun. Made a already excellent gun into a true competition gun if I competed.

Hands down for buttery smooth the Vortek PG2 gets my nod ;)
As for PG2's in HW97's .... Just WOW wow wow ! Absolute transformation there ;D

I'm extremely curious to see chrono data comparing the two in the same gun. I have both kits for my .22 RWS 34, but no chrono.

A, I like having spare parts, and
B my goal is to settle on an ideal compromise between power and noise. I like to tinker. I have four different seals too. I'm thorough lol.
The vortek PG2 was installed first with a green Apex seal. It was softer than the other seals so I though it would be a good choice since I didn't want to size it. But I over lubed it with vortek's awful moly looking stuff. I was curious about the tesla seal, so I tore the gun down and cleaned all of the lube off, and put a light shmear of macarri's moly on the piston housing and spring only. The gun has settled into a nice enough shooter that I don't really want to crack it open until something breaks, so macarris GRT MK2 kit lies dormant. I don't have any idea what my gun is doing velocity-wise. The gun is very quiet for what the pellets do down range though. I'm always thinking about more power, max efficiency, so I'm dying to compare them-for SCIENCE. If someone in southern colorado has a chrono and the willingness to have a stranger with a gun visit them, I'll test them back to back and post results here.
Would a paintball park let me use theirs? hmmmmm
