Cometa Indian RWS Model-9 Unusual and unusually GOOD!

How many other "satisfied" owners do we have out there?
I bought the Model-9 to just round out my airpistol collection, I had no idea it'd become such a favorite!
It's too bad that RWS didn't market the pistol harder for it's a really good shooter!
The unique Cometa Pistol is a very accurate piece in spite of the slightly hindered rear sight! I have found this pistol to be an excellent (2 handed) offhand 10m pistol! a few months agojust for fun, I decided to compare 3 springers on my Club's indoor range @10m The Model 9N, A Tempest and the IZH-53M. Suprisingly both the RWS Model 9 and the IZH printed offhand cloverleafs (and I'm no crack shot) but the litle Tempest spread it's group out a bit...
I was using Gamo Hunters in all 3 guns and the targets were 1 1/2" adhesive target dots, the range was 10m.
The Model 9N wasn't really all that suprising as it has shown very good preformance before and it's a real "Hitter" on quick soda can plinking at various ranges and it has won several informal shoots against far more expensive and presumably more accurate guns!
I think the fixed barrel, ergomatic grip and suprisingly clean breaaking trigger has a lot to do with it! I never chronied the 9N for consistancy but it did give 540fps with Crosman Premire lights.
The Pistol is very pellet friendly but seem to shoot the tightest with domed pellets.
I don't know how the 9N would fare as a close range sparrow gun but I'd wager it would account for a fair share of the little pest Birds. The grip shape lets you shoot it comfortablly at any angle and would surely help align the broad sights.
Speaking of the sights, the Pistol lacks a elevation adjustment but it'd likely be hard to have a high rear sight considering the over-lever cocking action of the cocking arm. As I said the sights are Big and crisp and Clear
For holdover, you just lower the rear sight down the front sight post all the time keeping the front sight under the target and the desired POI. Believe me the Model9 will do it's part if you do yours.
Far as I know the RWS version is out of sale here in the US but I think that theCometa Indiab version is still sold. You'd have to check with a Cometa dealer to find out for sure.
All in all I am very happy with this pistol and would never consider selling mine (it's just too good of a shooter!).
See if you can someday try one out, I think you'll be suprised with it!

I wrote a review here on this site for the Cometa Indian/RWS-9. I bought mine from the Manou Bros. ZVP is correct about how this little pistol shoots. I've chronographed mine using 7.9grain CPHPs and got an average of 480FPS. He's also right about the rear sight. I actually modified mine (but with only partial success) to be able to adjust for elevation without having to shim it. One thing I found with using the over-cocking lever is, due to it's being able to shift sideways a bit, it has scratched the receiver on mine. I did not notice this in time to prevent some major wear, but what I did was to cover the effected areas on the receiver with black electrical tape, plus wrapped a bit of tape around the contact points on the lever. The tape on the receiver blends in nicely. Mine is the black version (RWS-9B) versus the Nickel-plated version (RWS-9N). Since Umarex no longer imports this pistol, it can only be bought as the Cometa Indian now. Searches here and on the Yellow reveal how well-liked this little pistol is. It easily out-shot the Browning 800 pistol I owned, and is much much lighter than that one is. The cocking effort is only 8lbs, and it has this neat little pinion rack that extends from the front when the pistol is cocked. The barrel is cold-forged; supposedly a more costly process. I also agree with ZVP that this pistol is not pellet-fussy. I also think domed pellets are the way to go for best accuracy. I think that about all my airguns as a matter of fact.
These pistols rarely come up for sale as used. If you see one, don't hesitate. I almost bought another, just because it's such a neat little pistol. Only comes in.177. I'm a big fan. Oh, I wrapped black foam around the grip so it would fill my hand a little better. Used black tape to hold it in place. Most who've shot it like the foam.
