Nice work on the sight.
Why not just sight your gun for a 6 o'clock hold? I have a deer rifle sighted that way, so I just line the top and side of the blade with the bottom of the chest and front leg.
Weed-eater string can be had down to .060" and comes in many colors, like green or red.Just a thought.
The "fiber optic" is just plastic. Hum never thought about the string trimmer stuff. Geez, can't wait to get home and try it out.
Here's the good stuff for fiber optic rod.http://www.speedshooterspecialties.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=71&zenid=4e35137d4d938151a2ce5328e732f1da
You have addressed a question that I have been considering. I too think most front sights are too big for field hunting. They tend to cover too much of the target critter. However the big post is more visible in the shadows and varied background of a woods, especially to those of us with older eyes. I was considering topping it with a metal rod as you did the drill, but I was considering a small brass piece. The question I have about fiber optic is can you glue it in without the glue reacting with the plastic of the sight rod. One thing I would love to see is a fiber optic sight for quick visibility, but instead of a big round "blob" on the end is a triangle shaped "blob". The size of the blob attracts the eye quickly but the "tip" of the triangle would allow for precise aiming. There is a shotgun sight with a triangle tip I wanted to try, but I was told the chemicals of the glue would ruin the fiber optic rod when I called the sight company.
