Title: Keeping my Pellet rifle maintained help
Post by: Ahk on November 12, 2013, 04:13:44 PM
I'm just asking whats good oil or grease to keep all the moving parts on my Gamo Bone Collecter Bull Whisper smooth and grind free, also what should i use to rub on the metal parts of the barrel to keep it corrosive free, links and brands and overall tips would be much appreciated, also is there a way to put a better adapter to put on my dove tails that i can put a scope on, i don't trust dove tails with moderately powered pellet guns. I'm kinda new into the field of plinking, rat hunting, pesting, and small game hunting so any tips would be much appreciated.

The lube list is too extensive to go into.  Go to our library and seek out information about tuning.  Lubricants are discussed, also.  You can also get tuning info at charliedatuna.com.

As far as scope mounts, you should go with a one piece mount.  The base has one piece but the top has two rings.  There is also a pin which fits into a hole on the top of your gun to prevent movement.

If you prefer there is a Weaver rail adapter which clamps onto the dovetail, turning it into a Weaver.  Then you use Weaver rings.

For the outside of the gun only you can use Remoil on a cotton cloth to wipe it down...

Inside barrel:
10 stack of patches - hit it with WD-40
Use Crown Saver to pull patches from Breech to Muzzle
By the time you get to the last one it should be clean.
5 stack of patches - hit it with Rem Oil
run about 5 patches down

Outside of gun
Spray liberally with Rem Oil
Take 80 to 90 cu ft scuba tank (helps if you are a scuba instructor as you will have liberal amounts of air around)
put on rubber nozzle and blow dry the gun - similar to the air blast from a car wash

re-lead barrel run about 5 to 10 pellets down the barrel as often times too clean will mean spread in groups - at least for the guns I won.

Why not spray everything on a spring gun?  dieselling - ignition of the oil vapour as the pellet is punched out the barrel. You will know if it is dieseling by the sound and sometimes by the smoke.

On the guns with non quick release ring I keep the oil away from the scope on the picatinny rails I just pull the scope off.

There is a lot of opinion about the lubrication of the internals of the rifle and I won't go there.

But for the outside, I think that I have it sorted. I keep one of my rifles in the garage for instant
Squirrel duty. I find that it rusts quickly because on a spring gun you have to cock it with your hand
and it makes the barrel rust where your hand pulls.

I use Hoppes wipes in a can like baby wipes!  Love it.

It's quick and work well.

You can throw them on the bench and use one a couple of days in a row.

You should not use any petroleum based products(such as WD-40) inside your guns. You will likely create detonation which can be very dangerous. Stick with the info in the library.
