I have a silver streak that has been passed down and around a lot (this thing is worn). I'm not sure if its vintage but must be close. How can I tell?

It sounds like it's hard to pin manufacture dates down really accurately, but here's a blog link that you might get a little use from:

Look at the safety.
if safety is a hold-down (at the rear of the assembly) its 1958-mid1963.
if safety is a rocker-safety its late 1963-1977.
**OOPS... ignore the above... those dates might be wrong. maybe i am 2nd guessing myself.
Look at the receiver.
on one side there may be numbers/letters. 1964 or 4691 A/B/C/D...
Also the top of the receiver can help determine age.
Ridged top early 60's
Flat top 70's
Round top late 70's benjamin/sheridan.
this might help... still not sure about the first two lines of this post... those dates might be for the front sight or the type of bolt.

This link is from the above one;
http://ujays.net/sheridan.html
The shape of the front sight can be a clue.
The type/shape of bolt.

There was a great link by a member on the Vintage with how to identify each version by sights, stock features, bolt handles, etc. Seems he finally compiled everything into a book. Guess I will have to shell out for a copy but, knowing what he used to have on his website, and that there's lots more, it should be well worth it.

Well I guess it is a little bit of new and old. Maybe it was cobbled together from many guns. The safety puts it 60-63, the front sight agrees with this. Stock looks likes a newer model and the plastic ribbed cap over the barrel resembles Crosman made models.
Receiver has no date or model designator so it lineage is still a bit of a mystery.
It is a great shooter @ 5 pumps and shoots as good as I can with iron sights. My kids, 5 & 8, really enjoy plinking with it as I pump and load for them
I never thought of this gun as vintage until today - Thanks vintage gate!

plastic ribbed cap? do you mean the hand guard between the receiver and the rear sight?
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=243352866
That is a sheridan thing. My early '64 had it.
They only started putting dates on receivers by '64. So no #### on receiver = pre-1964.
Is the front sight like :
__/''''| <--- newer
or
___\''''| <---- older
