Title: crosman 18 in barrel
Post by: dwk54rak on May 16, 2012, 11:36:14 AM
I have been playing with crosman for a while. I have figured out how to find part no.s by down loading the schematic for a gun that uses the part I want to put on a different gun. I.E. I order a barrel for a 2289 if I want 14.6. I want to buy a 18in in 177. to put on my 1377. I had a custom shop 2400kt made for my grand daughter with 18in. That is a tack driving little beast. All help appreciated.

If you ordered a ccs gun then call up crosman and tell them you need a replacement 18in barrel for a custom shop gun

Thanks Mustang. I found a number for a 24in. But that was longer than I wanted to go

if you want to get a barrel that has been crowned by a pro contact charels mellon over at mellonair.com

me and a few other guys have bought crosman barrels from him. 12-24 inchs is 30 bucks shipped, cut to whatever length you want. he cuts the barrels and puts a extremely nice  professional crown on it and then polishes the face of the cut and the crown to a flawless mirror shine

Hey Darrell,

Just wondering what kind of difference in performance are to be expected between a 14.5" and the 18" barrel in .177? Should you see a increase in FPS, accuracy or, both?

My 14 1/2 in barrels are accurate, but they are in 22. As I mentioned I bought my Grand daughter a custom shop
2240 in 177 with 18 in and I would put it against guns costing 2 or 3 times the price of a ccs when it comes to accuracy.
I don't have a Chrony, been too busy buying guns. LOL. May be some one in the group has numbers on 14 1/2 versus
18 versus 24. Sooner or later you will see the law of diminishing returns as friction slows the pellet in the barrel.

Okay thanks, just wondering as I'm in the middle of modding my sons 1377, added the steel breech but it has the stock barrel still. Would like to replace this with the 14.5" but if there is a benefit to the 18" I'd not be apposed to that. However I don't know that this little pumper would be able to take full advantage of the longer barrel.

You should get 10 to 12 fps per additional inch of barrel.  Regards, Tom

10 to 12 fps per inch. That makes the change from 10 1/2 to 18 the cheapest giddy up  out there

Darrell,

When I put a 14.6" Crosman barrel on my daughter's 1322 carbine it upped the velocity about 40FPS. So the addition of 4" more of barrel added approx. 10FPS per inch. That matches about what tkerrigan posted, so I would agree with that statement.

Does this apply equally to .177 and .22 barrels?

Like the Ace Hardware Commercial "ACE IS THE PLACE"  For air Gun info, GTA IS THE PLACE
Thanks for the info. May be I will have a Part No. for the 177 18" When I receive the one I just ordered. They are closed for inventory. No shipments for a while.

part numbers listed above starting with 2400 or 2300 will require you to have bought a custom shop crosman gun before otherwise crosman won't sell you the part. They have a database of names of people who have ordered custom shop guns and will check ur name against it.

crosman short steel breeches are a custom shop gun part a couple of people ordered them and received them no problem.no custom shop guns were ordered either.it must depend on who you talk to when ordering.

I just tried to order an 18" barrel today and they told me NO.
I have an order in the Custom shop but I didn't know about mentioning the order.  (2400-102)
I'll try tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the info Mike.  I was able to give them my order # from the Custon shop and the 18" barrel is on order.  As mentioned inventory is also soon to start so it may take a week or so to get it.

@Mike
Thanks for the tip about mellonair.
I would like a 2400KT but with a 14inch .177 barrel.
The 10 inch is a bit short and the 18 a bit too long for a nice compact carbine.

What I would really like is a 14inch Walther barrel.

And the next question is how difficult is it to swap barrels in a 2400KT?

Recently read about some barrel length tests in .177 as relating to FPS.
As barrel length was added velocity increased, but this peaked at 20 in and actually decreased with additional length.  The difference between 18 in. and 20 in was minimal so I went with 18 in for practical reasons.
