Crosman plain barrel vs shrouded barrel & brakes...

A post got me looking; and from what I read, a shrouded barrel is different than a non-shrouded (I mean the actual barrel) and it helps reduce sound, Is that true? How do the shrouds effect velocity/accuracy?
Last - it seems a mixed bag, with one post ("Take it off and try") made the best sense - before I start heating up my brake to see if it changes noise/accuracy -- those that have done it -- difference?
IOW: If I can get the brake off, will it change much? (accuracy, velocity, etc)

What rifle are you talking about? Some have aftermarket shrouds made for them, some not. The shroud is added onto the barrel so no barrel change is needed that I know of. Yes it reduces sound and it does not affect velocity or accuracy. Removing the brake will just make it louder but it will need to be removed for a shroud.

Shrouds are nothing but a tube that sleeves over a barrel. They can be 'effective' or decorative. Shrouds may affect POI, but should not hinder accuracy. If it does, there is something wrong.
Removing an existing muzzle device may affect POI and require re-zeroing. If the existing muzzle device has sound reducing internals, the gun will be much louder with it removed.

Lets say this .... and this being JMO
Many an Inexpensive AG these past years get fitted with some sort of Shroud, LDC, Muzzle brake as a marketing ploy to make them more attractive to buyers who are left to think ... Ah stealthy is good !
Most but not all do what they claim in making fitted AG more hush. Accuracy is sort of a third or latter consideration with top spots in marketing going with POWER & QUIETER.
Without a doubt some of the AG's would shoot more accurate without these add on's ..... Some they don't effect accuracy at all.
As you move up the COST ladder to more finely engineered and manufactured AG's, you will notice that designs used for air stripper / baffles & added shrouds are a bit more complex and effective.
* Generally at this mid/upper level No accuracy is sacrificed when barrels get fitted with aforementioned devices.
Anywho .... enough rambling on

I don't believe the actual barrel is any different, other than it may be threaded to accept the shroud. My Benjamin Trail NP has a shroud/muzzle break combo that screws onto the barrel, and is pretty effective in the "neighbor friendly" category.
