Benjamin Trail NP .22 Really loud bang

I bought my Benjamin Trail NP .22 in August 2012. I've never had any problems with it until today. I loaded it and when I fired it, it was super loud. As loud as a gun shot. I was not expecting that at all, and my ears started ringing. I was wondering what would cause it to be so loud, when it usually is really quiet. Also before I fired it, it was in the trunk of my car and today was pretty hot out. Maybe the heat did something to the piston? The gun seems to be fine and firing fine now. I just wanted to know why it was really loud during that one shot?

sounds like dieseling. The heat probably volatilized some internal lubricants into the air chamber. One shot and they were gonr.

I've always found that twice as good costs four times as much.

Or the pellet fell out. Both will cause detonation.

X2
don't keep it in the trunk any more... I am not sure how well the plastic and other non metalic parts will hold up to prolonged heat exposure... If it diesels again clean the bore with some goo gone.

Please keep this situation updated as I'd like to see if this repeats at some point and if you find out what the reason had been.
Not wishing a repeat on you just that "if" it were to happen we might learn the cause.

I never had mine make a loud bang. I lubed it once with reg gun oil I use. Frog Lube... not a huge mistake but it did shoot really hard to first shot. I've since ordered some of the Crosman silicone oil and use it very sparingly... I even diesels with it a little bit.
I wish I had the confidence to do a lube and tune like I see ppl talk about so I could get everything in tip top shape lube with moly and honed, ETC. So far it shoots fine though, very accurate and while I haven't chrono'd it since it was new it seems to be as powerful as it was a year ago when i bought it... These guys know what theyre talking about. Lots of nice ppl here!!!

So I cleaned out the gun and I fired it multiple times. I put about 50 rounds through it and it works perfectly every time. I guess the heat just made it diesel that one time, but it hasn't happened again.

Did you dis-assemble the rifle and clean the lube out of the receiver or just the barrel.
A hot receiver (left in hot car) will liquify the lubes, allowing them to become very volatile, on top of that, the temperature of the air being brought into the receiver will be heated by the hot metal, raising the ambient temperature.
This will allow the peak temperature to be even greater, then if the gun was left in a cooler house, the smallest amount of lube would detonate.
If all the factory lube was removed from the receiver and piston seal, then being left in a heated vehice, would not as be as severe, as the volaitle lubes would no longer be present.
