So very pleased to have you join us here at the GTA Dan, and thanks for bringing that beauty with you If i had the extra money, i'd be ordering one of those quick, that shot count and power is astounding. Do you hunt with your bigbore(s) or just an extreme airgunner? Were you quite pleased with your purchase from Richards? Jeff
Glade to see you post here Dan . Keep us up dated . Marvin
Mine has a 1in 20 twist were as yours is a 1 in 22 . RB are normally low on the bhn count . Do you have any idea what bhn the ones that are working for you now are ? Marvin
What I have experience with both a RCBS and a LEE .454 RB mold is . With pure lead they dropped .452-.453 RB . With 12 bhn they dropped .456-.457 . Hope that helps . I noticed that Roto now has a 40 to 1 as well as 30 to 1 . RB are RB and very accurate is some rifles out to 50 yards or so . But you can not re size them and my experience again is between 50-60 yards what was super accurate became very inaccurate . But I have never been able to push them as fast as you . These two reasons are why I went with that 142-145 grain accurate mold that I call my mini maxi ball that you see pictured .Marvin
Pure lead is hard to get to fill the mold out . As you can see by the size difference in the RB. I like fast flat shooting rifles . It helps to keep the hold over down with BB. Even with hunting you do not know if your game will be 35 or 65 yards away .And a flat trojectory is nice to have . All the energy you need is to get to the internal organs . I do not have a lot of heavy weight molds . MarvinAccurate 454-145 grainObsolite ideal 452389 185 grainsObsolite ideal 454616 225 grains but a new version is out nowObsolite RCBS 82050 .452 255 grain new version is out now . With 10 -22 bhn lead very one of these bullets will out shoot the shooter IMO with my Gargoyle . Marvin
I noted on each mold the size . Some are .452 and some .454 . But even the .452 molds drop .453-455 with different lead . I re size all my bullets to .452 which is the groove size of the barrel . Dans recommended size as well . I have heard it stated that with a long heavy bullet that is larger than .452 that the bullet starts to engrave the rifling and it becomes hard to close the bolt . In other words the bullet is being pushed beyond the throat to far .As of yet I have never ran a bullet over groove diameter . The bullet rides on the lands which are smaller than the bullet diameter to start with . All that lead has to go some were . Lead is only so plastic and elasticable . Then it gets sheard to the base which causes accuracy problem .IMO Marvin
Dan H, Dan McVey Builds The most Powerful .45 & .58 Caliber Air guns IMO. I am still saving for my .45 Ranger After my Haley.58 Boomer I bought 3 months ago. A Ranger with a 28" barrel still sends a 405 Gn Hollow point at 830 + FPS @ 4500 psi. The 36" Barrel even on low sends a 225 Gr at 959 fps @ 3000 psi. Here is the Stats on a 34" Barrel below. That is a Awesome .45 Ranger with a 36" Barrel you have there Dan. Many Powerful shots for you with that Massive FPE Monster you have. Congratulations on your McVey Monster. It is a Great looking Rifle also. Wow , What a great Big Bore .45 XP Ranger you have there again Dan. There the most Powerful production Big Bore Air Guns right from the Builder. Jetman / Gary / Disabled US Army 34" barrel shot on High Power (The camo rifle on the home page) 540 grain hollow point @ 4600psi--- 824.5 fps ~ 815 fpe 480 grain hollow point @ 4500psi--- 866 fps ~ 799.5 fpe 430 grain hollow point @ 4500psi--- 896 fps ~ 766 fpe 405 grain hollow point @ 4500psi--- 911 fps ~ 746 fpe
Every one has their own preference . Mine is aluminum . You do know that you can alter any of the molds that he has any way you want or design your own bullet design . Marvin
