What Pellet??

I'm working to get my old Phase II Crosman 766 back in operation, and was wondering which pellets it will fire. After looking around here and retail sites, I see that there are many, many more types of pellets available than there were when I last shot this thing. Will this old 766 shoot any 177 caliber pellet? Not likely to be doing any real hunting with it, just curious what I could expect this rifle to spit down range.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and recommendations...

Really, the gun kind of picks the pellets. You just to get to bankroll its taste. Most guns do pretty well with the Crosman Permier Hollow Point, they're fairly inexpensive and common. I recently picked up some Crosman Premier Light pellets but they come in a carton of 1250 and that's a lot to buy just to try. My German guns seem to prefer the RWS Super Dome pellets.
Depending on what you plan to do and at what range you could investigate a pellet sampler.

The old 2100 I use to have shot CHP's and Daisy HP's pretty good but it wasn't a tack driver. I could hit a 2.5" target at 15 yards off hand like ringing a bell but I never shot it at a paper target. I sight in my plinkers shooting at cans and bottle caps.
There are some things that can be done to make them more accurate. You should be able to find several threads here on the GTA about making the 2100 more accurate that will apply to your Phase II 766. Tinkering with them is part of the fun but if it shoots great without any mods just enjoy it.
I should have the 766 I'm working on done soon so I may be able to share some information in the near future.

With a break barrel, it's easy to know which pellet fits tight in the bore.
With a bolt action, it can be a little tougher. I usually start with the Crosman Premier Hollow Point or a domed pellet because I know the head is as big as the skirt. If you have a really tight bore, the pointed pellets might be accurate.
You could push them through the muzzle end and see which pellets have a snug fit.
A loose fitting pellet will be less accurate.
