Title: 2240 trigger mods
Post by: AllanWJ on May 17, 2012, 12:29:44 PM
I just took a look at my 2240 trigger - pretty straightforward. :) The obvious mod is a lighter spring and guide but what else do you guys recommend?

Polish up all the contact points, including the bottom front of the hammer.... If you cut the guide the right length you can use it to limit the overtravel.... IIRC, about 1.1" works if you use 3/16" ID brass hobby tubing for the guide (7/32" OD)....

My 2400 has  adjustable trigger so no guide needed on the bottom. I found a much lighter spring and I used a .22 rimfire brass for a spring guide one the top next to the sear.  I had to shorten a little bit then polished the end.

The quest to turn a average trigger into a slightly better- than-average trigger will take time and, in some case, extra cash. By the time you try new springs, install a sear spring guide, shim the trigger and sear, and buy a new, wider trigger, you can easily blow $20-$50.

Best bang for the buck is to buy a P-Rod grip frame with the new two-stage trigger for $40 from Crosman, modify the existing hammer and call it a day. I have converted my 13xx/22xx pistols with this grip frame and adore them. This has become my #1 mod recommendation for these pistols.

Thanks breakfastchef. So that'll just bolt right in? What mods do I need to make to the hammer?

The grip frame (2220-103) is a bolt-on replacement. The notch of your hammer needs to be filled in so it looks like a cylinder when finished. Alternately you could buy a P-Rod hammer (CH2009A009) and striker (1763A036). The P-Rod hammer will need to be modified to clear the breech screw.

The only other modification needed is to increase the slot length on the pump tube where the sear and hammer do their magic. The sear of the P-Rod trigger tend to be a little forward and will drag on the tube.
