Finally found a spring, a fill pressure and a bullet that shoots one hole all day at 50 yards in my 45 cal Extreme Big Bore. Light weight spring at 3500 psi with a Lee REAL 250 gr bullet sized to .457. Only drops about 300 psi per shot and shoots 808 fps for 362 fpe. Happy day indeed but chilly here in Michigan for 3rd day of spring.

Put lots of bullets thru her today using the light spring and was very happy with it. Tried most of the bullets that you guys sent except the real heavy ones. She shoots the 155 gr EPP-UG's through one hole at 50 yards as well as the 250 gr REAL's sized to .457. The 200 REAL's come close but not quite as accurate as the 250's. Shot a 1 1/2" 5 shot group at 100 yards with the 250's but filled to 3000 psi after each shot. They dropped 14" with a 50 yard zero. At 50 yards I could put the first 3 shots through a ragged hole without a refill and lose about 400 psi per shot. This is a totally different gun when the chamber bolts are tight.

These guns love air with the heavy spring. I am really in need of a shoebox if I continue shooting it that way as I make trips to the scuba shop more than weekly even with my 106 cu ft tank . I love using the light spring as the gun still does very well and becomes stingy on air. The more I shoot the heavy spring the more I'm convinced that unless you go with a longer barrel, ie 36" or longer you are just wasting air. The pressure drop on the first shot with a 4300 psi fill is radical (about 800 psi) and I am thinking most of it just escapes out of the barrel behind the bullet. If the barrel was much longer the velocity and fpe would definitely increase. My barrel is 30" and I imagine the 27" barrels are much worse. With a 3300 psi fill using the light spring the pressure drops only 300 psi on the first shot, 400 on the second and about 300 on the third. For only a 10% drop in velocity that's not much of a price to pay on saving a ton of air.
The other thing that didn't make much sense is why I couldn't get good accuracy with the lighter spring and lighter bullets. I have never heard of any complaints on accuracy out of the Ranger X-P 45's at the low setting. I heard that these Extreme barrels are the same that X-P is using so why not the accuracy. Well since Brent tweaked my receiver/barrel attachment screws she is now a shooter at all settings and fill pressures and most bullet weights. Hurray!

i changed over to a light spring will get to shoot tues afternon i agree with the air wasting you will love a shoebox i would however get a chain driven and the better forged rods if you decide to get one mine is like my right hand right now couldnt imagine not having one now i do keep a tank filled for hunting im still on list for a ranger it will be a 58 if the 72s arent available

i think the problem with the light spring lighter bullet is the twist rate weight versus length 1 in 26 is pretty pedestrian just a theory
