48/52 breech seal. Holy Moly What a Difference!

Awhile back I completely rebuilt a flea market 1991 RWS48/52. Turned out well, but had a slight twang and sharpeness to the shot cycle I didn't like, especially considering their reputation for smoothness once tuned. Seemed a little anemic as well, with a 20 FPE average. The only thing I hadn't replaced was the breech seal. I had thought I could turn one myself, but it's so small and getting the inlet the proper angle proved very difficult, so I left the old one in. Shot well, doing dime groups with an occasional flyer at 30 yards.
Well, not wanting to hurt the gun since the shot cycle seemed too loose, I let it sit for months while I played with other rifles. Finally got a set of seals in for some rifles, and also had Vortek throw in the 48/52 breech seal with the order.
Replaced the seal, and instant transformation. The sharpness in the shot cycle is gone, twang is almost non existent, and instead of 20 fpe, how about 23+ fpe with FTT's and 24+ with Crow Mags? Then proceeded to shoot a single ragged hole at 25 yards with about 15 shots. Amazing the difference that simple little nylon seal made. Now if I could just get the loading port to stop clipping the sides of the pellet heads.

Congrats on a successful Resurrection.
Being a 91 gun, it must have a million shots through it and as smooth as glass.

Thanks guys. Probably one of the more difficult guns really thanks to the lever design. Had some issues with grinding on cocking to clear up and to tell the truth, the gun was actually pretty loose on tolerances so yeah, its probably thrown a few pounds of lead

A breech seal can make a huge difference! Mine on my Diana Model 48 lasted abotu 60,000 shots.... Over time things loosen up and I re adjusted it... every little bit. When I replaced it it still had adjustment but was getting close.
Was not the funnest job to replace. I tried to pry mine out and it would not budge... finally I got a drill bit and but hand turned it till it turned in as far as it would go and pulled and the whole thing came out. New one pressed in.
I have head of some people using a machine screw.. heat it up and turn into the seal and then let cool. Then use pliers to pull the seal.
Really did not make any difference for me. but lots of adjustment now!

My old seal is deformed and obviously original. It's half the thickness of the Vortek and doesnt have the deep inner taper. I used a machine screw and just screwed it in enough to get some traction, then pulled the old one out.
