Title: .30 Cal?
Post by: Berky on July 09, 2013, 11:15:12 AM
So, who is making an accurate .30cal? Preferably one that has the tactical look.

apart from the Rogue, the Stormpup .357 is the only tactical Big Bore I know off,
only two .30 cal production guns, Daystate and FX

Hummm, only 2. I wonder if there will be more of a variety in the near future?

There is talk of Cricket making a .30 bullpup in the near future.

After having had the chance of shooting/testing a Cricket .25 I was very much unimpressed by the gun, looks like lately them guns are having all kinds of problems

there are currently only two manufacturers offering a .30 action. Daystate has the Wolverine, and FX has the Boss. FX will be releasing a BP version of the Boss sometime in the near future - the Bobcat.

There is some talk of one of the importers barreling the Cricket with a .30 bore, but I have my doubts about the type of power that that reg'd action will achieve with a .30 bore without having to do quite a bit of modification, and testing. I would guess this project will take longer than they think. I know RAW is working hard on a .30 Rapid based action.

I have already made a couple of prototype actions that I loved in .30.

The bottom one is just returning today from New England, and is then headed out to Cali in the next couple of days for independent testing by an avid airgunners. Feedback has been quite positive by the users so far. I've got several more sitting on my work bench as I type... They are kind of a blend of both the actions pictured above.

This is a new caliber, now that JSB is producing two different pellets to feed it. I am sure that more will be coming our way in this particular bore size over time.

the hard part... If you know anything about my situation, you know that I have plenty of obstacles to deal with. If you are just coming up to speed with the work, my wife has MS, and I am a full time caregiver. I am actually only in the house right now to check to see if there is anything she needs before I start the next set up... Because I never know what tomorrow will bring, I don't take orders. I build what I want to build, because I love building them. When I am done they go up for sale, and usually go quite quick. This is not to say you can't get one. The best way to go about it is to give me a call. 304-273-0937 (evenings are best). While I don't keep a list, there are those that have the persistence to keep calling (without becoming a pain in the rear) every so often, and when I have something that is just about ready they have the right to buy, or pass. I don't take any money until the gun is ready to ship.

From my perspective, if I didn't take any money from someone, I owe them nothing. If they get all up in a wad because it is taking what ever amount of time it is taking for me to hand make what they are interested in, I reserve the right to pass on any deal they thought we might have had. My life is hard enough without someone trying to turn what I love into a pain in my "arse". It is this reason that I generally just build what I want to build, and put it up for sale when it is done.

For those that "get it", I am happy to provide them with what they want. It isn't for everyone, and I do understand that. I am working hard to be able to produce a larger number of pieces at a time. I have just started sending pieces out for duplication via CNC in quantity. Saving the time that it takes to cut pieces on manual machines will free me up to spend more time on finishing and testing, as well as developing the next new one. Needless to say it is an expensive undertaking to say the least. I do have a batch of guns on the work bench that are intended to help fund the CNC work. There are already a few people that have expressed enough ongoing interest to have the right of first refusal.

With the batch I have on the bench, I will guesstimate that they will start being ready in about 3 to 5 weeks. I have the large majority of the metal work cut and fitted to working actions, although they still need anodizing. The stocks have not been cut yet, but will be hand cut from a mix of grade2 and grade3 walnut.

For what it is worth, I also purchased a GOOD number of .30 bores after I did the first couple of builds... for sure, more to come.

Bruce, thanks, yeah, been busy!

I should be able to shoot one of your creations in the near future, I think :)

a friend of mine is telling me that he's in the process of getting one of your guns, now, that would be a treat,
looking forward to the day he comes up here to the Shore with one of those beautys :)

Manny, it is possible. He has been a little all over the map as far as what he wanted to purchase, so it isn't a 100% given he will take what I have ready when it is ready... He's also pretty specifc about the finished product, and I am not yet 100% sure that what I have in the works is going to be spot on with his "want" list. He will have the right to decide before it does go up for sale, though...

I've got a .30 out as a loaner right now. If I don't wind up selling one to an Island inhabitant, we can possibly work out a loaner for a few weeks...

I'm really giving some thought about a .30 Boss.  Might be the perfect little big bore.  Kind of long but a bunch of shots, quiet, and great accuracy.  How do you like the length Dave?

Lee, I think its a great gun. My biggest complaint about it is I get no where near the claimed shot count. Still gets 3 full clips no problem. If your used to a FX400-500 then you will feel right at home with the Boss. In my opinion its a bit too long to be carrying in the field.

I bet it would handle good without the ldc or have a shorter one made.  Any idea how long the gun is without the ldc?

Hi,

there`s another brand that makes .308 airguns. Drummen Precision Guns makes the Sinner, in .223, .308 and .357. Pretty nice guns, pretty expensive too. Drummen Precision Guns os located in Nuth in the Netherlands.

Beaumont is another brand that makes or used to make -i`m not exactly sure- .308`s. Beaumont is another Dutch brand, made by Alfred de Vries form Airguns.nl in Hilversum the Netherlands. Not exactly cheap too.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to notice this but that color case work is absolutely gorgeous!!!!

Are you oxygenating your water or adding nitrate?

I'm not sure if it meets your definition of tactical but FX is now making a .30 cal. bullpup called a Bobcat. It's apparently crazy accurate as it was just used to win the 75yd. extreme bench rest match hosted by air guns of Arizona.

The Bobcat did win something that is better described as the 'Extreme FX Pellet Gun Demo'. The boolit shooting competition was eliminated on safety grounds, and no mention was ever made of the exclusion on the site in the rules tab. The so-called 'Extreme BR' site goes on to admit the purpose was to showcase the big new pellet shooters. That competition is just an ad platform...
cheers,
Douglas

How about this for Tactical ?

a .357 tho not .30

FX now makes the Bobcat .30, looks pretty tactical to me and I shot one, it's very, very accurate
