Opinions on sight choices for the crossman 13xxx and 22xxx pistols. Scopes vs. dots vs. Open sights. And while we are at it scope styles pistol vs. standard rifle type. Wolfer

That depends on accuracy requirement. Tuned and maintained right, the 1377 platform can be quite accurate. Mine is consistently shooting a .75" spinner at 25 yards. The factory open sight is certainly not easy to adjust. I put a scope on mine and never looked back.
Open sight is good for shorter range shooting. It also allows much more environmental awareness. The other good thing about open sight is the height of the sight is very low, making it very suitable for close range shooting. The height of a red dot is a little much for me for close range shooting, and I already use a scope for longer range. In other words, a red dot has little value to me.

I really like open sights but would have never thought that my eyes would get to where things would start getting blurry. Scopes and a dot on some previous pistols are sure a lot easier to hit with. Wolfer

I put a Bug buster on mine....and a stock....tried the open sights, but the LPA min has to big of a slot for my use...hard to keep front sight blade centered..

I have all 3 open, scope, and red dot.
Iron sights are simple and easy... Rock solid and once set hardly ever need adjusted again.
I personally like a Red dot for hunting, plinking, and target shooting at closer ranges. Reason being it is quicker target acquisition, almost instinctive to look at the target and put the dot on it and pull the trigger.
If I am doing some serious target shooting or stretching out the range, I use a BSA 2x20 Scope. Reason is for finer detail. A red dot will be the size of the 7 ring or more. You can not see the bulls-eye like you can with a cross hair reticle. The further out you go the more the dot covers.
If you keep shooting it as a pistol and not adding a shoulder stock, you will want to use a long eye relief (pistol) scope. A long eye relief pistol scopes focal point is out at arms length, say 20" while a rifles scope is designed to have your eye much closer 3" or 4". Also, the power (magnification) of a pistol scope is usually less because they are for closer ranges. Pistols typically aren't used to shoot long distance so you don't want a 9x for use at 5-10 yards... Heavy and too jittery making it hard to hold on point, even if it's only mentally.
Now if you put an 18" barrel and a shoulder stock on your 13XX, you have effectively made it a rifle and your optics need to be treated as such.
Hope that helps
