What solvent are you using to clean your barrels?

I've never been a fan of over-cleaning barrels. In fact, I go the other direction and don't clean until I start seeing flyers. I'm getting ready to go to a shoot in AZ in a week or two, and figure I should at least clean my barrel and so some kind of preparation.
What are you folks using to clean your barrel? IIRC, JB Bore Paste is a bit too extreme. I used to simply pull a few patches of Ballistol and leave it at that, but might want to get a little more aggressive since it's been a few thousand pellets since I cleaned my barrel. It has literally been years since I cleaned a barrel.

I've found that Hoppes #9 gets the barrel clean as a whistle. After about 12 Hoppes patches, I follow it up with enough dry patches until they come out absolutely clean. After this, I pull about 8 patches with Ballistol, followed by another 4 dry patches. It leaves the barrel clean and [slightly] lubed.

Hoppe's Number Nine works well for getting the stuff water based cleaners leave behind. Be sure to follow with several dry patches as it can detonate in a spring piston airgun. This is probably not a problem with a PCP.

Pull through Kroil then dry patches the ballistol then dry patches only when accuracy degrades. As far a go goo gone I used until I found s real cleaner. Goo gone is light kerosene and orange and lemon oil.

Just ballistol, unless its a new barrel or particularly dirty, then its goo gone followed by balistol.

Non-chlorinated brake kleen from Wally World works quite well. It leaves no residue and is a good solvent for any lubrication or oils that get into the barrel, including the lube or coating that is one pellets.

I don't clean the air rifle/pistol barrel (s) unless accuracy drops off.
My arms all shoot below speed of sound so leading is not a problem.
The springers get a bit of oil from the chamber which is good.

clean you gun from the inside of the barrel to the bluing on the outside .

For a new barrel I use goo gone, followed by Ballistol. For any later cleanings, just Ballistol.

Joe, I agree there is no need to use J-B Bore Paste for routine cleaning. It's great for deburring the riflings but once that's done, there should be no need to ever do that again.
When you need to clean and actually lift lead, something like Kroil, WD-40, or Shooter's Choice can all be used interchangably. I no longer use Goo Gone after chasing behind it with Kroil and finding lead flakes on the patches.
WD-40 is often credited with some absurd uses but apparently cleaning an airgun barrel is one of the things it is quite good at doing. Frankly, considering that Mike Niksch uses it should be reason enough.

And, I'm not even going to guess about or touch this one:

Well, seeing as how WD-40 is (erroneously) credited with being a treatment for arthritis, why shouldn't it also be a fertility treatment? But I was thinking along the lines of a nutritional supplement. If some of you twists were thinking of its use as a lubricant, well I'm not responsible for the gutter in which your head rests

There's no powder residue in airguns, so no reason to use anything as harsh as Hoppe's #9.
I used to push a Goo-Gone patch, followed by a dry one until it comes out clean. It was only really needed after the Crosman pellets, as the antimony in their pellet alloy makes them shoot dirtier than pure lead.
Now, I lube my PCP pellets with Whiscombe Honey. (look up the recipe in Tom Gaylord's blog) My PCP never needs cleaning now.
The springers, I now clean with the airgun-specific bore snake. (no brushes) Wet the end with Goo-Gone, then pull it through a couple times. This is only even necessary with Crosman pellets or when I've somehow got lube in the barrel that I didn't mean to have there, and want to clean it out. (like if I use my PCP-prepped pellets, with the Whiscombe Honey. Then, my springers start dieseling)
This is all based on Tom Gaylord's recommendations from his blog. ('how often to clean barrels' or something) Check it out, it's worth a read. Ol' Tom has never steered me wrong.
The first thing he says is that he NEVER cleans until accuracy starts to go down. So maybe your best bet is NOT to clean, but bring the gear to do it. Then, it becomes a back-up plan, instead of something that might affect the accuracy you've come to expect.

I used Ballistol. I also just bought this Grizzly Grease. Haven't used it yet and probably won't for a while since I don't clean my rifle often.

Very interesting thread. I got answers to some of my questions.
One thing about WD-40 I'm wondering about though. In my experience and the experience of others, WD-40 turns into a brown, gummy mess when it dries out. What do you use to clean up the mess from the WD-40? Or do you follow it with so many dry patches there's not enough left to gum up the works?
Since WD-40 is primarily kerosene would one be better off just using some kerosene?

I've also been using Hoppes #9 myself, I really don't need a solvent cause I really don't get any leading in my guns that a simple swab with the Hoppes9 takes care of.
