Title: most accurate break barrel air gun???
Post by: dash4cash on February 12, 2014, 08:01:46 PM
Looking for some opinions on what would be the most accurate break barrel. .17 .20 .22 or .25 cal. Not looking for a hunting gun but a paper punching gun, 25 to 30 yards. Is their one that's great out of the box or do most need to be tuned to achieve better accuracy?? Price doesn't matter to much.

Thanks, Carl

Anything from weihrauch should work. I have a hw95 in .177 and its crazy accurate, but i put  a vortek kit in it because it had quite a twang to it. As far as any other brands i have no input. I own 2 springers both weihrauchs. K-man

Carl,
I agree with the Weihrauch recommendation. The HW95/R9 is a great platform, it's not too big, not too small - it feels just right when shooting and carrying around in the field. They are definitely at the top for accuracy. 8)

YouTube "airgun web beeman R9" Rick Eutsler does a video on the R9 which is the american branded Weihrauch hw95 (correct me if I'm wrong) and basically says it's the most accurate break barrel he has ever shot and he has shot a lot I believe. He says it's even more accurate than his fixed barrel TX 200. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many people to have something bad to say about Weihrauch.

I have to agree with the HW suggestions, I have a few myself, and all have Vortek internals. Not for power, though its good, but for the shot cycles. The CZs I have are close to the HW accuracy, but my LGV Master Ultra is right up there with with them. Can't forget about the Diana's either.

Since you are paper punching at 25-30 yards a 177 HW30S (R7).  The more expensive option would be an HW98 (R11).  Nothing wrong with a HW95 (R9) either.

Lots of opinions and lots of options for accuracy in a break barrel. I haven't shot all of those suggested, but sure would like to! In a perfect world you could try a half dozen different rifles and see which one fits you best. Example; I'm 6'6" and 300lbs., I can almost scratch my knees without bending over and my neck is as long as a sandhill cranes. I've been told my hands are as big as a catchers mitt. You might be 5'9 150lbs. with smaller body parts, so the size of the rifle could be a determining factor. I'm seriously considering the HW98 .177 for this very reason, because of the adjustments in the stock. Just some food for thought....... 8)

What have they been feeding you uglymike  ;) I know what you say, I am 6' 3" with a larger wing span, but never had to many problems with smaller, shorter guns. After doing some more research I believe I will look into the HW 98, HW 95, and HW30S with a few others on my list.

Thanks for insight guys!!

I have a few guns. They all can hold there own. The following are all .177 and are my observations.

The 30S is very accurate, but to 30 yards a little more power to negate any wind drift is needed. Fantastic for plinking.

The 95 has a little too much power for the weight to be an EASY to shoot gun. It is accurate but you must pay attention.

My 34 with a JM OS kit is very easy to shoot accurately due to the lower power. The T-06 trigger is close to Rekord good.

My 50S is shooting about 10.5 fpe. It is stupid accurate. It only needs me to load and pull the trigger to hit anything. The only downside is the cocking effort. It is just a touch under the 95, due to the articulated cocking arm. I still have no problem doing 100 shot sessions.

The extra weight of the 98 and tuned to 12 fpe would be the best choice in my opinion.

You didn't mention price. My Crowmag4 is the most accurate breakbarrel I ever shot---but it was pricy!

Out of the box, the most accurate break barrel that I"ve shot has been the Beeman R11 (HW98).  I have the R7, HW30S, R9, R11 and the R11 wins hands down.  The R7 is the only one that didn't have a twang out of the box, the rest, have been retrofitted with a spring kit or has been professionally tuned to tame the shot cycle.

Good luck.
