4th of July Hunt
«
on:
July 05, 2015, 04:23:54 AM »
The bar I work at all of a sudden decided to close for the 4th, since I was supposed to work I had no plans, so I decided to get away from the crowds and go up the mountains for an unscheduled hunt.
My gear as I'm getting ready after driving up
I started hunting a few Gulches, this is the kind of terrain I was hunting
After a couple of hours and a few different Gulches I finally spotted a nice sow footing in a very moist area, after a short stalk to about 30-35 yards I got myself into position and she quickly gave me a shot so I let the EunJin fly.
Here is what the area looked like, all beat up.
the shot was true
I always wait 10 minutes or so before going to the downed Hog just in case there's something else around, as I approaced the Saw I spotted an other one down the Gulch,...."No Way !!!"
I little stalk and I was in a good position for a 40-45 yards shot, she was facing me so again I let the EunJin fly.
so I went to the 2nd sow, took a couple of quick pictures and started to drag her back to the other, once I got to her I noticed a mongoose crisscrossing the gulch about 50 yards away, now I'm like, "nawh, this never happens !!"
When we have a change to take the elusive Mongoose we try our best, so I got comfortable and started tracking her, back and forth she went, but she was slowly making it my way, at about 25 yards she paused just enough for the EunJin to fly again.
precise neck shot
Love this gun, withe the 43gr EunJin she's deadly, and today was one of those days I couldn't miss

Wow Manny, that is an awesome hunt. Interesting to see the different colors of two hogs and the head size of each.
Perfect shot placement on that first one. Textbook.

Yesterday (July 4th) in the afternoon here, I was talking about you to my brother and brother-in-law. [When someone is talking about you, the saying here is: "Your ears must have been burning".] It was probably the same time you were doing that fantastic job on the pigs and the
poor
little mongoose. Well done!

I'm still not 100% comfortable with the trigger, is way Lighter than I'm used too.
I'm sure this kind of trigger is great for target shooting, but i find myself still shooting before I'm ready on the bench, that would be greatly magnified on the heat of a hunt and I can't afford that.
Will take the Slayer out when I'm 100% comfortable with the trigger, I prefer 2 to 2 1/2 pounds triggers for hunting.

Smoked ham, in more than one sense...
Apple wood is my favorite.
Have you posted and recipes?
I would say good shooting but heck you know it...
