I want to pull mine apart and I'm wondering how much preload is on the spring. I know I need to use a spring compressor but just curious as to how long the spring compressor needs to be because I'm using a 6" "C" clamp and don't want to run out of space.

I pulled it apart and it's not bad. There's some preload but it only extends out about 3-4". If I had someone helping I could do it by setting the back end on a table and push down while someone inserts the pin.

Really? You can push the spring back with your weight alone? I've not taken apart a spring, have a nitro piston for the 125, but when I'd taken it out for a tune put my weight on it and couldn't budge it. Then again, just a waif of a fella.

Yes really, it's not as bad as the unknown the first time you pull it apart. I was sitting at the table with the gun laying down and pushed it in to about an inch with just arm pressure. I know if I put it in the block I made on a solid surface I can push and hold it long enough for someone to put the pin in. I made that comment to insure you that it doesn't have a spring that you need to build a heavy duty compressor like I did because I couldn't find info about how long the spring will extend. I watched a few youtubes from overseas doing other model guns that way but I also know they have guns tuned down so I couldn't trust them.
Here's the compressor I made and tried it with deck screws first. I did buy bolts but when I put a little tension on the back the pin came out by hand.
I made this one last week for a Stoeger, it's nice for a break barrel because it's so short with the barrel removed.
