My situation is kind of like Wayne. My closest dive shop is 70 miles away, but they fill to 4500psi and sell a fill card, 10 fills for $45 I paid for the last one. If I know I'm driving that way for work I will top off my scuba tank from my carbon tank, then get my carbon tank filled. Works out pretty well. I usually just get to shoot a couple hours on weekends and don't have anything over .25, so it's still more economical to do that than invest in a compressor.
Geez...I really wouldn't mind having a pcp rifle and a carbine. But I really wouldn't want to get a bunch of extra gear.I could live with a pump and maybe a guppy tank, and just tough it out.But I guess if you get a big bore you need more.
Health issues was the biggest factor that got me to invest in a compressor.

I recently got into PCP and thought I'd just use a hand pump but after a little research on how many strokes it takes and then buying a Hercules I decided the pump wasn't going to work for me. I looked for paintball stores and dive shops but nothing near me that can fill to 4,500. I wanted a HPA compressor that could fill a larger tank in an hour or less. At first I looked at Carette, it was a little more $$ than the AV, especially after shipping is added in. I read up on the AV unit and it looked pretty good but has a wait list and I see reports that it can get hot after an hour run time and should be given a break to cool. A hot compressor means hot output air which has some negatives. 1 hour is about what it takes to fill the larger tanks. The test had the Carette run 24 hours without issue and it runs cooler so I opted for the Carette and I have one arriving today. It was a little more than a shoebox or AV. It fills a lot faster than the boosters and shoebox. I picked up 3 used 30 minute SCBA tanks on EBay. I figured the smaller tanks would be easier to handle and store and each has plenty of air for many fills in a typical 3,000psi PCP gun. Can get about 3 fills each on the Herc. which is 1,000cc and 3,700psi.
