Thinking of Buying a Hatsan 95 Springer.. Good to Go or Mods Needed?

I think I may get a refurbished 95 Springer from HatsanUSA. Is this version good to go out of the box or should I be thinking of getting a better spring etc? If yes on the need for modifications, what parts should I get and where? Is it difficult to do a springer tune?
By the way, what is the actual weight of the rifle without scope? I have seen 7.8 and 8.4 lbs listed in different places.
Thanks gentlemen!

We don't have refurbs in the Antipodes but a Hatsan is good to go out of the box. It depends on what your expectations are. They are well and stoutly constructed. With a bit of DIY modification they can be as good as a rifle costing twice the price. No new major parts needed but you may have to buy a Macaari seal because the Hatsan piston seal is only fair.

I just posted this on another thread. Might even have been yours- first cup of coffee here...
I'll link it to the 95, striker seal page this time:

2oz seems his smallest moly paste size but hey, combined shipping savings:

With a spring piston you really need to strap that gun down and ensure you've a solid press. You do not want to be messing with a compressed coil with some cobbed together "git 'er done" set up. Air/gas pistons are not under such compression length and barely move (fraction of inch) but a coiled spring is pre loaded with dangerous amount of stored energy. Don't take that lightly.

From everything I've read here from guys that bought rifles already refurbed or even sent guns in to be worked on, they've all come back shooting very well and owners had no problems.
Personally, I'd get it, shoot a couple hundred pellets through it to get everything settled in before mounting a scope to it if that's the plan and just have fun shooting it, getting used to it and finding what pellets it likes best.
They may not have the fit and finish of the higher end rifles but they're pretty solidly built and nice shooters out of the box.

I got a Mod 95 in .25 cal last year and I love it. Had it for about a month when there was an issue and I could longer cock it. Sent it back for warranty repair and got it back in about four days. Haven't had a problem since.

Go for it!
Just remember that the scope supplied with it is complete garbage!
I would not even bother to mount it.....

IMHO, the Vortex (gas piston) version is sooooo much better.

Don't fear the refurb...and Hatsan's customer service is good.

I bought a refurb 95 and it shoots well. I still need to tweak the trigger a bit, and it's a bear to cock. I have to break in over my knee to get it open, the vortex may be easier. I didn't get mine directly from HatsanUSA, I bought it from Field Supply. I think it was selling for $95.00 without a scope. My only complaint was a small scratch on the stock, but I will probably try my hand at refinishing the stock next winter, so I'll be able to fix that. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the purchase.
