Bear Trap Safety not working after GRT-$G?

Hi All,
I recently completed the CdT GRT-4G into a Gamo Whisper DX II and the CdT tune with Maccari Apex seal, spring and lubes.
Everything went well and I was extremely happy with the results- happy enough that I am considering doing a few more for buddies as thank you, b-day, Christmas gifts. I know! Lucky Buddies, right?
Before I decided to undertake three more guns (and give them as gifts) I wanted to make sure - absolutely certain - I did everything correct in mine. After firing 150 pellets (confirming function of the safety, function of the gun, effectiveness of tuning) I decided to test the anti-bear trap safety function. I just cracked the barrel open, not fully broken, and with hands clear tapped the trigger.
Dangerous and dumb, perhaps, but I did do it with good intentions. I am glad I did.
The bad news is that the bear trap safety failed the test. The good news is that I believe the gun is fine.
I've triple checked my work, and feel strongly everything was installed correctly. With the barrel broken open, just open, the Anti-beartrap block (grey plastic) does prevent the fat pin from fully elevating, however it does allow about .045" of rise before pin is stopped. The gun fires within this .045" space.
I have no idea if the anti-beartrap functioned before tune. I never considered checking it (or even that it existed).
I did try to remedy by backing out 2nd stage screw by 1/4 turn with no improvement.
Thoughts?
Thank you!!!

My first thought is to put everything back to original and see if the anti beartrap works or ever worked.
My second thought is to pull the stock and observe how the anti beartrap works and perhaps see why it doesn't work in your case.
The anti beartrap on a break barrel isn't at all the same as the anti beartrap on a fixed barrel rifle. With the fixed barrel it is a separate blocking assembly - not at all related to the trigger. With a break barrel it is simply an extra safety which is supposed to prevent the trigger from being pulled when the barrel is broken open. With Crosman guns there is a tiny spring which is supposed to pull it to block the trigger as soon as the barrel is cracked open. I don't know about your Gamo but it's probably similar. Check for a missing spring by comparing yours to a parts breakdown.

Not the absolute expert but perhaps a more accurate test would be from the full cocked position since the intent is to prevent the accidental sear release while loading the pellet. So at some point in the return to battery the anti bear trap has to disengage to allow the rifle to fire. More importantly is the fact that any safety device can fail so proper cocking and loading is always paramount. i.e. on a break barrel rifle never let the barrel free to move either secured under your arm or firmly grasped by your free hand until the rifle is fully closed

There is a little pin that should be included with the trigger, it needs to be installed before you put the cover on the side of the assembly, fat end inside. If you did that than you need to take the action out of the gun, set it on the bench and crack the breach open while holding the cocking arm against the tube, watch the little plastic piece slide down and engage the pin, if it isn't check that you have the little spring in place correctly.
Take a few pictures and post them up...

I'll try again without pictures.
Thank you everyone for your replies. It took me a while to get back to this project.
Road- I did reassemble with the stock trigger and the BearTrap worked as it should. What i noticed was that as part of the plastic molded stock trigger there was a ridge on top of the pin that hit the BT earlier in the travel. The gap between the ridge and BT was .025" (vs. the CdT fat pin that had a gap of 0.40" - .045". That combined with the longer trigger pull of the stock trigger (1st stage is approximately 1/8" longer for stock) explains why stock trigger/ BT works. I did install the torsion spring correctly: The BT slide comes back as it should when the barrel is broken open.
Softail - The BT in this thing seems to be either blocking the raise of the trigger or not. It is a slide with notch, not a cam or otherwise progressive. That is to say "Barrel more open" doesn't equal "more safe" and I am reluctant to give it more travel in fear it would fail with all that swing and destroy itself! I agree, safe handling is more important that relying on a mechanical safety. However, I feel giving a guy a rifle known to have a safety feature not functioning is pretty negligent, too. But at least they couldn't give me the finger if things went bad!
Tom - While leaving parts behind is certainly in my nature, I did remember to install the fat pin. And the return torsion spring. What I see is the thin end of the Fat Pin is just a tad too thin. See the .015" difference between top of ridge of stock pin and CdT fat pin mentioned earlier. Because of this, the pin isn't hitting the BT slide early enough during the pull, allowing the gun to fire even with the BT blocking full travel of the trigger.
I have pics of stock trigger and CdT install and will try again to post when i have enough "cred".
Again, thanks all for your thoughts and input.
