I recently ordered four different tins of pellets (.177, domed, 8.18, 8.44, 8.5 and 8.3). The purpose was to determine which pellet will shoots better in my Stoeger A30-S2. Here's my question the tins contained 250 / 500 pellets so I randomly selected 10% from each tin I weighted them to my surprise in one test 6 out of 50 were the exact grain the others ranged below and above the grain listed, is this normal ? Now should I use a formula say 5 grins + / - to determine if they would be acceptable for the test?Any information would be helpful, thanks.Philip
nced I bought scales just like that, very happy with the price and the guarantee on them.
I've also weighed the Crosman .22 pellets too, they were mostly all heavier then what they were supposed to be.
with the Winnie domed pellet the tin to tin variation in grains is from 9.2g- 10.2g... each tin seems to center around a certain weight... weighing them helps slightly. head size has been very consistent with them. they work very well so far in Crosman L.W. and BSA barrels...
Once again thanks for the continued input. But I got to thinking I'm only shooting at paper targets, other steel targets and tin cans I guess I should just stick to the cheap pellets. I guess buying what you paid for the money goes right out the window. Does the manufacturer know of this situation, maybe the cans should state "8.4 +\-. Bad habits I use to be an auditor for the gov't.Thanks

A while back I bought a tin "fer cheap" at a Tractor Supply store but I didn't shoot them because I found that they weighed over 9.7 grains and they were very loose fitting in the leade of my .177 R9.Just for grinns 10 minutes ago I measured and weighed 5 "Winnies" at random from the nice tin with the screw on lid. Here is the result.........Uploaded at Snapagogo.comActually, the tin I have are nicely formed and clean, just too heavy for my springers and the heads are too small!Uploaded at Snapagogo.com
