how to clean a burr from inside of polygonal barrel.

Hi
I recently purchased a LW poly barrel with shroud and a RAW pressure tube for my rapid 12.
As it was a good deal I had it sent to me but after initial inspection I found a little scratch inside the barrel running at 90' at about 2 inch from the transferport.
I first tried to push a pellet trough the barrel with my cleaning rod and I felt some extra resistance at the place of the scratch.
I also found some marks at the head and skirt of the pellet.
Does anyone around here know how I could repair/polish the barrel.
What to use and what not to..
Is this something you can attempt at home or should you trust this to a gunsmith?
Any differences in polishing/cleaning a poly barrel from a ordinary barrel?
All help appreciated as I'm really happy with the look of the airtube/shrouded barrel on my theoben but I prefer accuracy over looks so I'm back to 5.0mm original barrel for now.
Thanks a lot!

Personally ... if a BURR mid rifling not being the drilled transfer port as cause .... YIKES !!!
That would be an ALARM that someone jammed in some tool/rod to dislodge something stuck in the bore etc ...
If the reason for this burr was caused by an inappropriate something forced down it ... likely other areas of bore are fubarred too.
Now, as too removal of said burr. Get a small diameter FINE / GREEN dremel tool stone on an 1/8" shank and glue shank into a length of K&S brass hobby tubing. measure how deep into bore this burr is at and place a felt pen mark on the tune/tube you made up. Gently scrub JUST THAT spot until burrs gone.
Do it again with a cratex point or like polishing tip on the brass tubes other end.
Pending caliber of bore, sizing of devise created may need to be different, but procedure remains the same.

I would try using some Cerrosafe and make a chamber cast in that location, To really see if their is much to that. Plug your transfer port with a small tight wood dowel, whittle one and tapped in a bit more then flush, Push a real tight wad of bore cleaning patches just pass the said burr or scratch, warm-up the barrel, Melt your Cerrosafe It melts at 190 degrees and pour in. Let cool, Pull out your wood dowel. And tap out the cast with a cleaning rod from the muzzle end, And you will have a perfect cast of that area, So you can really inspect to see if theres really any damage? Or take it to a gunsmith and have a look with a bore scope. Then proceed if needed.

You only need a small bar, I use mine alot, It can be used over and over, It's handy stuff that any shooter should have in there box of must have's. Cheers Jaa

Thanks for the reply Scott,
Yikes was my first thought when lookin down the barrel.
I think you might be right about some **** trying to force a stuck pellet out with a 'ramrod'
The position of the burr does correspond with a double load.
I'll give the dremel bit a try as the barrel is of no use to me in this state.
Luckily the deal was good even without the barrel so if I fubar
this barrel up any further it's not a giant loss, although I made the purchase mainly for the barrel at least I'll be an 'Experience' richer for it.
Hoping to get it fixed tho but can't see it becoming more accurate than the (great) standard barrel.
Thanks again for your input!

Hi jay,
I've never heard of the cerrosafe but looks handy to have around, if I get it right you make a negative mold of the barrel inside and check the mold when removed from barrel?
I think I'll go to the gun shop tomorrow and have them scope the bore before I start messing with it.
Thanks for the reply!

if the burr is concave or convex, won't removal fracture or damage the mold when you remove it from the barrel?

I used it all the time, With my rim and center-fire. I stared shooting airguns I put it to use when polishing out air-gun Throats and inspections I will give you a Perfect Cast, Sometimes it can be a bit scary as it shows {all} tooling marks! And the Barrel will still stack pellets on top of each other,
LOL Just Remember to plug the air transfer port.

Hi vT,
Have you thought about just shooting it... to confirm it needs work and how much? The reason I ask is because I had a .25 LW (traditional rifling) that had a gouge in one of the lands... in almost the same spot. I know what caused it because I put it there... with a piloted reamer that didn't work. Anyway, long story. Short version - I finished the work on the barrel blank and then shot it. Had pretty low expectations and they were born out for the first 100 shots. Then it settled down and now shoots 2 MOA... go figure. The gouge can still be felt but nearly as much as before. Perhaps some lead down the pipe will polish somewhat?
