A very good weekend.....FINALLY!!!

The rain has finally stopped, here in NorCal. The sun is out and the puddles are just about soaked into the ground.
THAT means......I can finally get out into squirrel country for some finger squeezin'!
Man, I've had cabin fever BAD! I even set up a 'range' in my house, just so I could get some trigger time.
I've been missing my buddies Baxter and 'Johnny Mac', but Drew (DrewciferPike) has offered me his property for exploration and pest elimination.
It's a beautiful spot....and the squirrels are just now coming out of their holes to revel in the sunshine.
Their mistake.
You know.....It never ceases to amaze me how much punishment those little buggers can absorb, and still keep on truckin'.
There was one.....he was relaxing, out at 83 yards, on a small dirt berm. I was in the shadows of the trees, so he had no idea I was waiting to say hello with my BWalton Bt65. He was blinking into the bright sunshine, yawning, and stretching when the 25gr JSB zipped across the distance between us.
He had no clue what was coming, and was completely spun around when the pellet hit him just in front of the right shoulder. That BT65, with Baxter's LDC is no louder than a gentle hand clap, so that flea infested rodent had no idea what had happened. He flipped his head from side to side....paused.....then proceeded to examine the now leaking hole in his right flank.
I couldn't believe it. So....I sent a second introduction to my presence his way. This one was a body shot that hit just high enough to deaden the back legs. NOW that squirrel knew something was definitely not normal, and he started to slowly drag himself, right to left, for cover.
I fired a THIRD pellet that hit further back that I like, but it was still a solid hit. STILL that little bugger was able to drag himself another few feet and disappear down a hole. THREE solid hits....and he still was able to crawl 20+ feet. Those rascals are TOUGH!
This one wasn't able to get away. He was happily munching on one of his stored away walnuts. He had just picked up a second half when I cleaned out his ears for him. He never knew what happened.
The best one of the weekend was right at the end. Drew had come out to keep me company for a little bit.
It was gorgeous. The sun was out, the birds were chattering in the trees, there was a light breeze.....and there were squirrels.
We picked a spot in a newly pruned section of nut grove, and were facing opposite directions, about 20 yards apart.
Drew was concentrating his ears and vision one way, and I was working the other.
63 yards. I can see a young'un slinking through the ground cover, hoping to get to his hole before I could see him. He didn't make it.
I lined up and squeezed off.
Now, that BT65 is quiet...comparatively. But, when you're in the quiet of the woods, concentrating on something completely different, it can still be a shock to your nervous system when you hear it 'spit'.
Two beautiful things happened at almost the same instant.
I fired --- It was like a pitcher flung his best 96mph fastball into a waiting catcher's mitt. You know? That distinctive "THWAK". The squirrel rolled.
I spun my head around and raised one finger to let Drew know that I got him....as if you couldn't have heard that popping sound. As I turned I just caught the last part of Drew coming back to earth, having levitated off the ground, after being startled from his reverie.
Thanks for giving me somewhere to play, Drew.
Total for the weekend.....26
Longest......132 yards.
Now I'm REALLY ready for summer to get here!!!
Go get 'em!

Almost makes me wish we had a few of those critters around here.
Still miss the Ground Hogs back east. Ground too hard here in Texas for almost anything! LOL!!
Enjoy!
