As I mentioned, it has been surpassed with heavy pellets, but not with a pellet that weighs half the FPE (ie 25 gr. for a 50 FPE gun).... Using the average pressure is not an exact indication of the potential power, because the initial pressure does more of the work (is more efficient) in accelerating the pellet.... While I use the above method for estimating the effect of a plenum on a shot, in reality the importance of the pressure drop is probably overestimated.... However, I see your results as pretty good (but not conclusive) evidence that the regulator being off the seat at 1700 psi is having a beneficial effect.... If you are running on the knee of the curve, and to get the efficiency you are, you must be.... it is typical for the velocity below the setpoint to actually increase a few fps, plateau, and then drop off.... In other words, although you are running a 1900 psi setpoint, your hammer strike is (or should be) tuned for the velocity to peak at 1700-1800 psi.... If you were tuned closer to the plateau, then as soon as you hit the setpoint the velocity would start to decrease.... The further up on the plateau, the more rapid that decrease.... Regulated PCPs act just like an unregulated one, being fed with a constant pressure above the setpoint.... Bob
Did you determine the thread pitch on the regulator adjuster yet, to figure out how far the regulator is open at 1700 psi when adjusted for 1900?....Bob
if you break down and do some serious math
I have a gun that runs no return spring spring and is real efficient. It's not a marauder but where the air tube and valve are is the same. It is .30 cal though.Your right though. Take to much from one place and it effect other things.
18" barrel280 cc3600 psi fill1900 psi end37 shots 884-901 fps45 gr JSB'SI will turn it down to 880-890 fps. Right now most of the shots are mid 890's to 900 fps. I will get it to 40 shots
It is regulated and set at 2100 psi. Going to take it down to 2000 psi. I just did another string and it start at 881and ended at 877. Most were in mid 880's-890 then comes off the reg and peeked at 902. The JSB 44.75 gr .30 is not.the most accurate pellet weight. Some tins are terrible on weight
