Disco medium spring choices?
« on: April 10, 2017, 09:21:44 PM »
What is the difference between your discovery medium and medium "gen2" spring?  I'm looking for the best choice for a .177 maximus, to be combined with a power adjuster for 12-20fpe power adjustability.  Am I asking too much?   ;D

Hi Mark,
The Gen2 is the exact same dimensions but a slightly softer spring so while the medium hammer spring
would do a real nice string at 17-18fpe in a stock .22 disco shooting 14.3gr pellets the Gen2 will do 12-14fpe.
both cases in a stock rifle without a power adjuster.

Also the medium spring is currently unavailable though hopefully I can get them again soon.
the Gen2 should be able to do what you are looking for but if you are ok waiting a day or two I'll see if I can
get you some chronograph strings from a stock .177 maximus so you'll have a real good idea what you can expect.

Best Regards,
Joe

Always glad to help, here are the chronograph result from the Gen2 spring, all strings were shot from a stock .177 maximus except for the
power adjuster and spring, and the pellet used was the Crosman 7.9 wadcutters.
With the power adjuster screwed all the way in and from a 2000psi fill:

Same setup but 2 turns out on the power adjuster(likely could get a nice little curve with a fill pressure of 21-2200psi):

And lastly at 4 turns out you can see the 2000psi is bit high for this setting and it would benefit from a 1750psi fill,
It is split into two parts because I've found the chronograph will some times loose connection after ~40 shots so as a precaution I split into two.

One thing to note is there is a very high standard deviation, with some shots jumping or dropping 20fps,
that is in part because of the pellets as well as I was experimenting with sear drag and loading methods,
with a good pellet and normal conditions that will drop considerably.

And using two 7.9 for a total of 15.4gr I got a velocity of 820fps for 23fpe on high power.
so with 10.3 gr you should be pretty close to the 20fpe mark.

That should do nicely. Let me know when your gen2 springs come in and I will make the order.

I am considering power adjusters and springs for my .177 Maximus and .177 Discovery.
This is for accuracy for target shooting at low velocities, not hunting.
Which spring do you suggest?
  • Lexington, KY
Benjamin Marauder .177, Crosman Challenger .177, Benjamin Discovery .177, Benjamin Maximus .177, Crosman 2100B, Crosman 2300T, Browning Leverage .177, Crosman P1377, Umarex Fusion .177, GameFace M4A1 airsoft, Crosman Vigilante, plus many others

Between the gen 2 and medium hammer springs the gen 2 is just slightly softer which makes it a little better for lower power setups.
While the medium is better suited for medium to higher power levels although both do very well in low power we are working on getting the medium spring back in-stock at the moment.
