For those of you interested in trying out field target at an indoor archery range.
Saturday April 15th 10 am
Center Sports - 3 Orlando Drive, Columbia, CT
$6 per hour
12 knock down field targets - 4 lanes - 3 per lane - 2 shots per target - 24 shots
Two lanes Sitting or Prone - One lane Kneeling or Standing - One Lane Standing
10 yards min - 20 yards max
I will have a kneeling roll and floor mat for the kneeling lane.

Instead of knockdown targets, I will have boxes filled with rubber mulch and paper faces for indoor shooting. I will try to get at least one possibly two outdoor lanes setup next to the outdoor pistol range.

This is just my opinion...so please take it as just that. I believe that people find a lot more enjoyment in seeing a knockdown target fall than seeing a hole in a piece of paper. I know my 12 year old daughter does. I have a difficult time getting her to shoot paper, but have a tougher time getting her to stop shooting knockdown ft targets. I think shooting into rubber mulch filled boxes will be pretty lackluster compared to actual knockdown targets. I'm betting that the folks you hope to attract to the sport will think so too. I think you had a fantastic idea going when you announced your event, but got discouraged and changed your plan when someone got overly excited with unsubstantiated claims of contaminating a whole building with the dust of maybe 1000 pellets. Lead is heavy. It's molecular weight will always be much heavier than the surrounding air...regardless of how fine it is. Whatever dust is created will settle on the floor very near the target very quickly. It's not going to remain suspended in the air and circulate through the hvac system for eternity. My advice (fwiw) is to go back to your original plan using the knockdown targets and set the hook on a bunch of newcomers to the sport.

Michael,
I share the same opinion as you do. I shared the concern of lead dust with the archery range manager and he did not think it was a problem. If I am able to find extra large corrugated card board boxes to surround the field targets, then I will be able to reduce the lead cleanup.
The rubber mulch box targets are needed anyways for sighting in and for the indoor bench rest event I am planning of doing in the future.
If it is a nice day outside that Saturday, I think I can easily set up a 3 lane course for them to shoot next to the pistol range with some help.
