Love my Pro Compact.
Ive been looking at buying a 177 for a bit now because all my springers are 22. I think Ive narrowed it down to a Diana RWS 34 Meisterschutze Pro Compact or a Hatsan 95 QE. I already have a 95 regular version in 22 and it shoots like a champ but Ive always had my eye on the 34.Ive never shot or even handled one. Was looking to get some feed back about the rifle from owners and particularly about how lout it is. Im looking for back yard/indoor friendly and if Id be limited to heavier pellets to keep it quiet. Also does the muzzle break moderate sound or just a cocking lever.

You cannot go wrong with the 34 or 95. Plan on getting it tuned no matter which one you buy.Below is a link showing the accuracy of my 34.The muzzle brake is just a cocking aid.http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=123807.0
My .177 was fine out of the box. A couple thousand shots later the spring broke and was replaced by a Vortek. My .22 cal was buzzy and the piston seal was damaged from factory. It still has a stock spring and replacement Vortek seal, a debur/lube, and a plastic chopped down Vortek spring sheath from a Diana 350 kit. You can make one from a disposable plastic water bottle. The .22 shoots tight groups now.The 34s are no more noisy than other springers. The deciding factor is how close/friendly your neighbors are.I shoot mine in the basement. But it disturbed people trying to get to sleep or nap.
HW95.
Unless you insist on using VERY light pellets (6 to 8 grs. in 0.177"), your D34 will not/should not be more noisy than an HW95.Ideal pellets for the 34 platform is between 8½ and 10½ grains, you will need to test to see what the barrel likes best ONCE IT HAS SETTLED DOWN.The muzzle weight of the Pro-Compacts needs some attention as it sometimes becomes a headache when it gets loose. You should NOT think that the MW is an LDC.Over the years you will have more latitude for different uses with a 34 than with a 95. The former starts from a higher power plant that can be "detuned" to your liking as far as power/noise/range is concerned. The 95 start with a 13 ft-lbs power limitation. When life changes (and it will), the 34 will adapt, the 95 MAY not.Just a consideration.Keep well and shoot straight!Héctor MedinaPS.- the ULTIMATE tune of a 34 is turning it into a 340, LOL!
Hard to beat the 95. But as stated above, the 34 PC can offer various options. I hunt with mine. With the pickle off the barrel it is short and light for offhand shots. Sighted with the pickle on, great for rested field shots, or a dandy benchrest rifle. The muzlle weight controls some recoil and allows you to maintain sight picture. Sometimes I've even added a 1/4lb of metal wrapped in a rag inside the butt. Options.

I was looking at the HW95 but see that its stock is a RH, Im not really into buying another RH being that I am LH.As far as the tune. I keep reading about that. Are you talking more disassembly and lube or an upgrade to a vortex kit?How is the sound on it? Is the gun backyard/indoor friendly?

My HW98 is out for a Vortek kit now, and when it gets back my R9will go out for a Vortek kit. Yes I'm a firm believer in the Vortek kits. My 34 is shooting around 14 FPE, it is fairly quiet. If you wanted it really quiet you could drop it down to 12 FPE.I have guns at both levels and I really prefer 14-15 fpe.
If you want quiet, then a 50S in 22 would be the trick. Ambi stock too. SHO vortek kit will yield @13fpe.
