Hey all,
I have a real nice copper banded first var. Red Ryder. It's only major flaw is its stock. The top hole is chewed up....not cracked but lots of wood missing under the receiver. I filled it with plastic wood and it's holding but I really want a wood branded 11 mod. 40 stock in decent condition. Anybody have a spare....or a rough gun with a nice stock on it? Please don't think all I have to offer is a need for parts but I do need a few. It doesn't look awful but I doubt it's very sound either.

Is the barrel band all copper? I read on the
Daisy Talk forum
that the 1st var. had a gold plated copper barrel band (if I understood correctly) but haven't researched if this was the case or not.
FWIW, Daisy still sells a "brass" barrel band for the 1938B, I ordered one out of curiosity and wasn't too surprised to find it was plated steel.

They were copper plated steel. That's one reason why it's so hard to find a nice example of one. I have that sorted. Mine has copper plating in pretty good nick. Usually the copper plating is shot. I have seen examples where the owner crafted a replacement band from solid copper. Daisy stopped the copper plating (and the cast iron lever) at the start of the war, when copper became a strategic metal.
