Coast to coast mailing rates for airgun shipments

Holy cow, got some sticker shock today when I went to mail an airgun to a tuner in California. Previously I guess have only shipped guns to people closer to the east coast and used to doing so for $12 to $20. But today I shipped one from the east coast to California and it was $45!
This was USPS, and the Priority rate was only 10% more than the ground shipping rate so went with Priority. Wasn't expecting that but paid it cuz I got the sickness.

It's $30 or so to mail a gun from Chicago to northern CA or WA. That's for a light weight Disco or Maximus.

I sent a Nitro Venom and scope from eastern WA to eastern PA last year. I insured the package and the tab was about $50.

yea shipping is a huge factor in repair and tuning and it really adds up when you pay to ship it both way you are looking at $80-100
even if you just ship an action like the disco is going to be around $20 each way.

It can vary quite a bit, according to the weight & measurements of the package . I ship a lot & it is usually a minimum of $25 , up to $50

How about reducing length of the box by taking the barrel out of the stock? Wrap the 2 pieces really well and placing them side by side in a shorter box? I am thinking of shipping springers here because they are usually long!

If you are shipping the whole gun, ask the tuner if he needs the whole gun or just the action.
Size and length of the box seems to matter, (yes size matters
).
I think the shorter the better.
A tuner in Cali shipped my action back to me USPS for $25.

Yes, I should have thought about breaking down the action and stock. But I was happy to be using my original box so was focused on boxing it back up like I got it. Good suggestion!
