Crosman 114 hammer spring

Fiddling with a couple of 114s over the weekend. I recently fixed a leaking, steel barreled one and stretched the hammer spring just a bit while I had it out. Made a difference in velocity so I turned my attention to another 114 I have, a favorite shooter the last few years. This gun is accurate but I knew it wasn't shooting as hard as it potentially could. I took the hammer spring with me to Ace Hardware and picked the closest match, their #143. A quarter inch or so longer than the original spring and stiffer, though with fewer coils. What a difference a 75 cent spring makes! Before, I was shooting JSB 13.4 at around 560 fps at max power. Now it shoots a JSB 15.9 at 640 on max, around 525 with the adjuster screw backed out 7 turns. It's like a different gun. Going to see how it does with 18 gr later this week...
