I dont have a 392, but was thinking of trading my Steroid BlueStreak for a Steroid 392. And I was wondering what ammo does the 392 like most? I know all air rifles are different, etc, etc. But there are general consensus on these things. Do they shoot the modern wasp style stuff really good? Will they do things like H&N Hornets, Silverbears, Crow Magnums, etc really accurately? Or do they kind of always default to cylindrical?
I found on E-bay a pair of shooting glasses that have .75 reading glass lenses

Actually, I think I'll keep my Dans, 312, 347 and my 101. I may dump a 1400 soon though.

Ok, I'm assuming you would consider this trade because of pellet options. I mean, that would be the only thing that even comes close to making sense to me. And even that would NOT make me do that. Your gun, your choice. On another note... Personally, unless one of my vintage pumpers is missing or has damaged parts that can not be replaced with original stuff due to lack of availability, I see no reason ... FOR ME ... to have the gun steroided. Anything I shoot at with my vintage Sheridans can be hit quite effectively with 5 - 6 pumps max. Would it be nice to get 6 pump power out of 4 pumps? You bet it would. Is it worth modifying a vintage gun that is becoming harder and harder to find at a reasonable price? Not to me it ain't. Oh, and do you really get 6 pump power out of 4 pumps? Because if not, it's useless to me, remember?.. all I need is 5 - 6 pumps from and unmolested gun.No offense to anyone out there offering these mods... these guys are way above my skill set and our air gun community owes them a ton for the knowledge and services they bring to the table. Bashing and down playing them is not my intention. I just have a certain respect for these vintage guns. They ain't ever gonna make guns like these again. Clean em up, shine em up and enjoy shooting them as they were meant to be shot. That's how I see it. I'll go to Walmart and pick up a plastic fantastic for $40 and put it in a blender to see what comes out if the urge to tinker strikes me. There are guys getting amazing numbers and accuracy out of these for nothing more than hand tools and a little ingenuity. The 13XX / 22XX platforms offer unlimited satisfaction for beasting. Good luck getting your investment back... At the end of the day, I would pay more for and untouched vintage Dan than I would for anything steroided.
I'm one to vote for the Benji if it's a 342 or 312. I personally like the smaller more compactness of those 2 Benji's. I would never trade away a current 392 for a Streak. The 392 can be Steroided too I'd still keep the Streak. No questions asked.
The ONLY 392 I would consider trading a Streak for is a early model 392P . They go for "similar" money and you get the benefit of .22 pellet selection over the 'Streaks .20... but even then, it better be a darn good one! What I would do, is keep the steroid Streak and buy a new 392 for $160. If you don't have the cash, wait and save up till you do. They are still making 392's but they will never make an old Blue Streak again.
On the subject of which ammo is best for the 392......I have had very good success with JSB 18.13 gr and for that matter, Crosman domes. Not the hp. A noticeable diff. That said, I recently tore down my 392 completely, drilled/ported the valve exhaust, two spring mod, drilled the transfer port to match the valve outlet......and now can NOT hit hit a bullseye to save my life. As Tim says, I'm gaining experience LOL. The bore on the 392s is rumored to be on the large side and pushing a pellet through the barrel would support that. I have had best accuracy with the H&N in 5.54 head size and just ordered a 5.55mm batch to see what there is to see. I had to go an mess with it. It doesnt' shoot any faster but it does shoot much less accurately.
