Benjamen 342 Valve Removed - Do I need to Clean Empty Valve housing?

Hey Guys,
Have removed the valve assembly and it looks pretty clean. However, there's always some basic residue left - should I worry about (lightly) scrubbing valve hollow with a solvent?
If yes, what is best to use?
If No, then OK

I spray the poop out of it with Simple Green, both ends. I use a plastic wand from vertical blinds. Use the handle end for pump side and thinner end for down into the valve. I tape paper towels to it and send in and clean. More Simple Green and repeat until the paper towels come out clean. After, that run a few more paper towels until dry. Then alcohol rinse and shake. Final step take it out to the hose and blast it out. Obviously, all this is easier with everything removed and just tube. Valve guts out, piston and arm off, bolt and cam plate off, rear sight off. You are left with just brass. Let it dry and lube the tube and start reassembling.

Thanks Rob,
I read good things about the Simple Green de-greaser
. Is there anything down the empty tube to damage with a scrubber?
I believe everything is out ...... just brass tube with a small pin hole between the valve shell and the pump cavity.

Just be careful not to ding the intake valve port. Some people polish it with a bit of mild abrasive on the end of a wood dowel.

Yea, nothing left to damage. Don't go using a power tool in there. Remember there is threading. If wanting to use something to clean out the threading a bit of you feel the Simple Green didn't do the trick use a piece of green Brillo pad.

Hey Guys,
Used Rob's idea of Simple Green cleaning on the valve/pump and barrel of my 342. After applying Simple Green 4 times and swabbing out, it looked pretty clean. Decided to apply a little "Mother Mag Wheel Polish" and continue swabbing. Was just amazed how much more crud came out of the valve and pump areas.; their now shinny clean.
- Also, noticed that the front (muzzle) lead seal had not come out of the gun. Used a (ground down) o-ring pick to dislodge - whew
.
- Further, taped a piece of 1000 paper to a 3/8" dowel and lightly cleaned up the intake valve seat and the pump side wall.
- Lastly, ground the ends of the heavy valve spring and compressed it in a vise for about 3 hours.
This should shrink it a bit and allow more air to flow through the gun.
This gun is
now
ready to rebuild ..............................

Yeah Terry,
Re-finishing the stock now and buffing out the outer brass with the same Mother's Mag Polish.
With the addition of the Mac1 valve kit, she should be "
like new
" in a few days

I know I am a little late to the party but maybe this will help the next guy.
Once you have it stripped down that far and swabbed out, I use Automotive Brake Cleaner that comes in the aerosol can with that tiny red tube.
It's designed to remove grease and oils and evaporate fast leaving no residuals. It has darn good pressure and the tube lets you get down deep to flush out the gunk.
If you do need to go deeper you can make a extended tube buy joining two of them with a small piece of vacuum tube.
I follow up with compressed air and it's clean and dry in seconds.
