A normal rat hunt.

It's a nice warm evening here, so I go out to make a rat kill.
I sit down in the dark and listen to the nature sounds.
The neighboring couple is arguing.
I hear two bikes probably street racing.
In the distance two gunshots go off and minutes after, the faint sound of sirens.
Home sweet home.
Then I turn my attention to the bait ladder.
The light is on and the familiar shadows appear.
I load the gun and sit down.
After 15 minutes I see a branch moving.
A rat by the food bowl!
I let him eat. He comes down again. I still don't shoot.
Now I know where he will come down.
Safety off and I wait,,,,and wait.
There he is! I take aim, take up the first stage of the trigger, hold my breath and pull the trigger.
Whack! Down he goes with a hole in its head.
Gun: HW97K .20
Pellet: H&N Barracuda
Distance: 15 yards.

Nice shot and story Stefan. Normal is good. No surprises
This is a bigger one than the last couple of rats. Maybe you shot mama or papa rat.

Nice shot!
I did something similar the last two nights , and the last two fat roof rats of the clan I've been chasing for more than a year showed up, both dispatched this time around after tweaking my bait dish to force them to remain longer on the bait dish to be able to take a shot.
One was shot through the spine/neck area and exit through the vitals, crawled a few feets away leaving blood trail behind, the other one pierced one ear into the top of the head, looks like the shot also destroyed the vitals, exit wound was still bleeding, she dropped cold next to the bait and never moved at all except for the helicopter tail banging on the bait dish, racket was loud in the middle of a quiet night..
Tonight, no takers, I haven't seen any others for weeks, This season my orange tree didn't lose a single one to rats, I'm hoping the Avocados and Mangoes will do better later on this summer, if not, I'm going to blame the squirrels and lift my self imposed moratorium.......LOL

Yeah, they eat my Oranges.
I don't use a metal stick, just my hands with gloves on.
The "metal stick" you see is the tape measure.

It seems you are the gents I need to be talking to!
I hunted and killed 2 rats in my yard almost 2 years ago and it was some of the best fun I have ever had! Disappointingly they where the only 2 I have yet to see. It is still cold here and I found some droppings and a hole but I think they are old.
There is a pig farm close by and I want to ask the owner if he has rats but that seems kind of like a strange conversation, not really sure how to go about it.
