Had some time to install new features on the linuxcnc.
NativeCAM is a addon cam interface for axis menu, helps a lot on generating G-code at the home shop.
It shows material stock and tool paths on the axis menu preview, so basically you see wireframe image of the part you are going to make.
Pretty cool for open source cnc controller program.
Barrel clamp for the .224 project.

Made an improvised chip guard out of old bucket
I have some polycarbonate but need to machine some stuff so no time to make proper guard.

It works actually pretty good, I didn't have any chips in my shoes this time. And so does the new CAM features, fast and easy to program pockets and tool paths, drilling cycles and everything in one package.
It prompts for tool change and waits for my ok, then continues with next tool. So far I like it.
I think I hafto design an ATC system next.
trigger group coming along.

No, it's open source program, free of any kind of charge. And very good support forum.
The mill is big and old Victoria U2 no kits for that one, everything is fitted by me. Will be changing the knee stepper for servo and 1:10 planet reduction, still will be getting 3-4 times the speed than now.
I'm using big nema 34 1600ozin steppers for this one.

Yeah, no pictures and it didn't happen.
Well here's one pic from setup phase, I'll take more detailed pictures if needed. Usually too focused on doing and I forget to take pictures.

Yes she's big, about 2 metric tons. Longs motor steppers and drives, money was tight when I bought those, and leadshine stuff was more expensive and they are just the same. Big steppers and drives cost money.
1:2 reduction on each axis for now, will be changin x and y to direct drive once I have time to install new balls screws that are waiting on the shelf. 10mm pitch on x and 5mm to the y. Different pitch because the shorter 5mm screw was free from a friend. 25mm od on those screws.
Servo drive should be here today, after that's mounted I can use the remaining stepper and drive for the fourth axis dividing head.

Linux is the cats meow when it comes to an operating system in my opinion! Another program that I've been having fun with for graphic designing is Blender, haven't messed with it in a while but it really can become overwhelming for this old brain at times

I like Linux for the stability, wouldn't trust winblows to drive cnc.

Didn't want to rush so it took most of the day, but I was doing other stuff as well. But if I want I can make one like in an hour or two. Just need to learn to trust the machine more.

Cool set up Marko.
Not sure if that's your basement or garage, but you have a sprinkler system in the ceiling? Is that a building code there?

Thanks Jerry,
Oh no that does look like a sprinkler when looking at the photos, well actually it's an old clothes hanger bolted to the ceiling.
It's a garage, made from an old barn by the looks of it.
And the previus mad scientist used to paint stuff there so the ceiling is full of hooks and stuff to hang parts to dry.
Ceiling is low for there's a lot of insulation there and not so much airspace to warm durring the winter.
When I'm working in there the machines keep the garage warm, and when I'm not there's a split type aircon / heat pump.

Now that machine sees lot more action, trouble starts. I already knew this day would come, the old leadscrew nut was worn. I tightened the backlash with a counter nut that had been already tightened almost to the limit to get acceptable play. Well found yesterday that my backlash compensation was getting under correction again so new ballnut and screw operation started today.
New nut fitted inside the old, added some oil galleys for lubrication from the old nut to the new, not an easy task without the mill, takes longer with drill press and hand tools.
