I think you should shoot the first match on the NUAH target, 10 shots at 100 yards, score out of 100.... It will be a lot more difficult than you think, IMO.... and more than 2 bullets touching will be a rarity.... If you want to increase the difficulty, then as marty2 suggests, a line cut scores the lower score....If you find it too easy, with people tying at 100 - 10X.... then consider making a more challenging target.... Alternately, I have drawn out the NUAH targets with the 9 ring split into two rings, the inner half scoring 9 and the outer half scoring 8.... The old 8 ring is now 7, and the old 7 ring is now 6.... This is like the NRA 600 yard targets.... I have them in white, yellow, and black, as before.... This is a sample ONLY.... What do you think?....Bob
I REALLY like the idea of using two targets, with 5 shots on each.... easier to score, and then each target could also be used to qualify for NUAH membership, or upgrade your status.... The drawback is that there would be no way to control you shot all 10 shots in a row, you could shoot all day, and then select the two best target to submit for your score.... .... On the other hand, nothing really WRONG with that, I suppose.... How about just shooting one target of 5 shots, and scoring it out of 50?.... With the X-ring for a tie-breaker, and the difficulty of shooting a perfect target anyways.... I don't think that would be a problem.... It would encourage more shooting, and we would likely get more shooters upgrading as a result.... as the match targets could be used to upgrade if you supplied the required photos of the range, etc.... Regarding the change I made to the NUAH target, the scoring rings are now identical to the NRA 600 yard MR-1 target, scaled down by a factor of 6 for 100 yard use.... the only differences are that the 7 ring is white, not black, and there is no 5 ring.... but the proportions (in MOA) are identical.... I propose that we substitute these for the current NUAH target, as then it could be used both for qualifications (nothing changes) and for scoring for matches.... Bob
Since it is usual for the smaller calibers to be deflected more by the wind, and considering that the alternative would give the advantage to the larger calibers, I think scoring a shot touching a line as the lower score makes sense in this case.... Also, it makes the Match a bit more challenging, particularly scoring a 10, or especially an X....
