I add one in the center, as Daisy did on the 901's. Which internally, are EXACTLY the same as an 880
We can all agree that Daisy's (as well as all airgun makers) QC is not what it used to be and seems to be less with each variant. You might do the Q-tip test on the straw barrel. Check the crown and inlet ends for burrs. The tape mod is not meant to straighten the straw barrel. It's meant to stabilize it consistently from shot to shot. If you've secured that barrel to insure it ain't bouncing around and you're still shot gunning pellets everywhere then your issue is something else. A chrony brings many mysteries to light.
How about drilling a small hole (or several) and injecting some hot glue? Lube your barrel first so the hot glue doesn't stick to it.
Well this brainfart just popped in my head.... Anyone ever given any thought to putting the barrel into the shroud and shooting it full of expanding foam? I'm sure you'd need to trim off the extra that oozes out. I bet you could put a thin layer of lube on the barrel so you could slide it in and out if needed. Boy, wouldn't that be a one time deal. Unless they make something that disolves that stuff.
Wonder how uniformly that stuff expands and sets up. Could potentially open a can of worms.

The q test was done long ago together with everything else but checked it again, even though everything was loctite secure. It is still fine…no burrs.I have no intentions of straightening the barrel with the tape mod. Quite the contrary. You missed my point completely. My goal is to secure the barrel at its factory pitch w/o distorting it. Case in point; with the tape at the midpoint my 3 shot groups were spaced clock-wise around my zero, several times & with several loads. What this tells me is that the barrel is fine but the tape held it consistently out of whack.I would like very much to see your results. I know it is a pain to post pics but if you can, please give me the measurements of your test at 15yds by measuring each 3 shot group taken from their widest points at the center of the penetrations.
