Terry is using a really light 6lb hammer spring and a 25 gram hammer which will help prevent heavy galling better and less friction. He may also be using some lube on the hammer too which will slow down the wear, but may cause inconsistence hammer movement if so. With the new gun barrel and TP seals along with the added regulator he is doing well so far with 75 shots at 3%. Aluminum is quite soft so if the anodized coating begins to wear off he could be looking at higher spreads down the road. Time will tell.
All you guys put a smile on my face. Glad to see so many ways you all have figured out how to tune the TSS outside of the original spectrum.
Read through this entire thread.A question and or observation came to mind: Back on page 12, posts #227 by TerryH, he mentions, at FuzzyGrub suggestion, he replaced the Primary Spring with a lighter spring from McMaster-Carr.The result was some outstanding numbers. Like, why buy a regulator kind of numbers. So, my question is: Is the McMaster-Carr better quality (not saying Travis buys junk!)? Or the ends of the spring are flat providing more surface area for more consistent numbers? Just a lighter spring? McMaster-Carr make a long Secondary like spring with the same flat ends to get maybe even better numbers?Thinking a TSS, the WAR MDS hammer, the McMaster-Carr spring(s), MMHB, port it and I will have one heck of a MRod! (I am looking to spend my tax return )
My gun is regulated. The very light Hill hammer and poppet spring do not like or need the heavier springs.

Ah, my bust.Cannot keep track of all of your rifle projects!
Some great info,I still havnt got a tune I like.I also have a 20 gram hammer,My poppet spring is very light also.Dont know how light it is? the stock poppet spring is hard to compress, the one in it now is easy to compress with your finger.Maybe I need to try the super light weight hammer spring like your using???Idunno, lots of projects and not enough time to really sit down and focus on tuning a maruader.....
I already have a TSS installed for my gen 1, 22 cal mrod. I also have the stock valve and no regulator. I just purchased an MDS hammer and am wondering what spring combo I should start with for my tuning. I have the ability to fill up to 3000psi and I would really like to have the highest velocity/lowest ES for 20 pellets that I can get. I primarily use this rifle to hunt, so I hopefully won't be shooting more than about 20 shots in an outing, but If I do I have a guppy to refill my gun with. With just the TSS I once had an extremely low ES (I can't recall what it was, probably like 5fps) but it was only for about 12 shots and would decline after that. I kept tinkering with the settings and could never get it back to that ES for some reason...? Mostly I'm just wondering if I should start with the stock hammer spring and long inner spring? Or maybe the heavier hammer spring and shorter inner spring? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
