Come one, come all. Casual Match 3 is open for business. The Casual Match is a fun match. Shoot whatever you want at 10M (more or less depending on what you have available), use any position or rest that you prefer. See below for the details.
Rules are the same as for the 50’ Casual Match, except distance is 10M instead of 50’, using the 50’ target of choice. If you are like me and limited to distance, shoot at whatever distance you have available. Classes are PCP Rifle (includes any rifle except spring or nitro pistons), Piston Rifle, and Pistol. One entry may be made in each class.
Because of the holidays, the match will run through Sunday, 01/08/2017.
The 50’ rules and targets may be found at:
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114644.0
Please include the following information with your entry:
Call name or real name
PCP, Jumper or Pistol Class
Air rifle or Pistol
Sighting system
Pellet and caliber
Shooting position and/or aid(s)
Score

New guy on deck...Help me out here.
I
FINALLY
got a gun better than I am. Darn thing puts the pellet exactly where I point it. Put up an indoor trap tonight so I get to play here.
One page of sighting in then pulled this off.... Check my math and correct me where needed.

Nice shooting. You might want to go back and add your X count.
Was the AR078B a Christmas present?

Thanks James.
It's a combined Christmas/ Birthday present I got it 2 weeks ago. After a good cleaning and making the indoor trap, this is the first I've shot it.
I tried to use the same target as Mark, but with the Peep and my eyes I simply could not see it.
So help me understand...
Isn't the "X" the one Center Bull top row I counted as a 10? (Roman Numeral) ...That is the only one I took
all
of the "dot" out.
The center bull in the second row both shots went threw the same hole and left a portion of the "X" dot so I did not count that, some of the Dot was left.
With the center bull on the bottom row, they were on each side of the "X" dot and took it out where they touched so I gave myself a 9 and a 9.
Is that right or am I missing something?

Scott,
You have it correct - to count as an X the center dot must be completely removed.
Pellet holes tend to close in after the shot which can make scoring close shots difficult without a plug to open up the pellet hole to its true size. Ask Marty2 about plugs. He will be able to tell you much more than I can.
I made my plug by gluing a wad cutter pellet onto the end of a skewer. I don't believe that it is as accurate as true plug but it was made with materials on hand and I never got around to ordering a plug. I also tend to shoot 177 JSB RS dome pellets in my 2 CO2 rifles (one a QB78D) because it is the favorite pellet of both guns. The dome holes really close up and the plug works well in opening the hole back up to the true size.
Enjoy the matches and your new rifle and welcome to the matches.

Thanks Again Jim... feels good to be here instead of looking in from the outside.
I just happen to have some pointed 177s and a pack of skewers... Brilliant!
Just to clarify the difference in an "X" and a 10.
On the target it has written...
Quote
Score(MOA): X(<0.5); 10(<1.5); 9(<3); 8(<4.5)... 1(<15)
If I am in the 9 ring and touch the dot without completely removing it, is that a 10?
I may have shot a better score than I thought.

Scott,
As long as it is touching the dot it is scored as a 10.

Scott,
It is really hard to score from a picture. My best guess is 191.
Please see attached. On the bottom row, you scored the 1st bull at 9+9; it appears that both shots touch the center ring, so 10+10. Also, for the first bull, 3rd row down, it appears the both shots touch the 10 ring dot.
As for X-rings, you probably have 3: one on the top row center and 2 on the 2nd row down center. Again its hard to tell from a picture. That's where the plug comes in to see if the entire dot is removed.
You may wish to PM Marty2 and ask his opinion. He would be much better than I am at doing this.
Jim
Added this from the 50' casual match rules. It explains the scoring much better than I can:
6) Except for scores of "X", shots are scored according to the highest value of the target scoring zone or ring that is touched by a circle centered over the shot with a diameter equal to the pellet caliber designated for the target. A scoring gauge or the head of a wad-cutter pellet comes in handy for this (the pellet skirt may be too large), or just determine this circle using the hole in the target made by the shot as best you can. If any part of a scoring ring (demarcation line between the scoring zones) is touched by this circle, including even the outside edge of the scoring ring line, the shot is scored the higher value of the two scoring zones. In order to score an "X," the center 10 ring dot on the "45" target for 0.177 (4.5mm) caliber must be completely obliterated, or the larger gray ring around the smaller 10 ring dot must be completely obliterated on the "55" and "635" targets for 0.22 and 0.25 caliber (5.5mm and 6.35mm);

Thank you for your attention and your patience Jim. I will take the
191 Score
as I agree with your evaluation. I was trying to error on the low side if there was any doubt, but that is what I got as well on the revision...
I will make up a gauge plug for next month. Hope that I am no so high maintenance then.
After all... it is all in fun.

10M rested with this new gun is a far cry from 30yds with one of my Jumper's off hand, even with a scope!
