We have started the planning stage for the event. If you are thinking of or plan on attending the event, PLEASE read this thread in it's entirety. And check back for any updates. THIS will be the place I come to for adding any updates or to inform our members. If you did not attend last year, you NEED to make this one. The venue was fantastic as was our hosts Hargis, Amy and the rest of the crew!!! I just got off the phone with Hargis and we are both excited about the changes and the possibilities of the coming event.
The event from last year on will be officially titled the Annual GTA Gene Curtis Memorial Fun Shoot/Airgun Show.
Sticking with his tradition, the event will be held in May. The dates are the week of 10-15 May 2016.
The event is held at the Gallatin County KY Fairgrounds just outside Glencoe, KY. https://www.here.com/directions/drive/mylocation/Gallatin-County-Fairgrounds:38.722107,-84.827159?map=38.72211,-84.82716,12,normal&fb_locale=en_US&x=ep
There will be a few changes to the 2016 event. Last year, being the first time there was a learning experience for all of us. We hope to make it bigger, better and run a bit smoother this time and every time in the future.
Let's start with accommodations. There are several hotels/motels in the area. But we have a group discount code offered by the Ramada Sparta. Call them at (859)567-7223 and give them code GTA-Gateway To Airguns to receive a room with either 1 or two beds (your preference) for $69 per night. They have a pool and I believe complementary breakfast bar. The normal discount rate is only $82 per night so they have stepped up again to offer us a great deal. I, as well as some others, have already made our reservations.
And as last year, full camping sites are available with water and electricity....and again at NO charge to us. Can't beat that price!!!
Campfires are allowed also but wood cannot be brought in. You have to either buy wood locally or Hargis will most likely supply a truck load.
Now that we have you situated with a place to sleep, on to the event.
We generally have Friday as a setup day, meet and greet and start any wheeling and dealing. Saturday is the main event day with door prizes, raffles, shooting competition FOR CASH PRIZES and the big pig out feast. Sunday is generally a cleanup day, making any last minute deals and saying goodbye till next time. Again, we have the place from 10-15 May so feel free to come early. I plan on being there the 10th to start setup and making any last minute tweaks.
There will be a covered firing line, most likely where the cover was started down range last year that we shot to pieces. LOL
We warned Hargis but he said, ah, pellets ain't gonna hurt that. Uhhhh....wanna bet?
Behind the concession building, where we had the firing line tents, we plan on setting the tents back up but that area can be used if you want to bring items to sell or trade. And I plan on having the raffle/door prize items set up there for display. So bring tables or chairs to just hang out under the tent when you are away from the firing line.
Hargis says he will have his concession area running the whole time we are there so food should be available at the fairgrounds.
The Saturday lunch meal is supplied by GTA. It's actually made possible by your donations throughout the year as well as your entries to the raffles. So, every penny you donate to GTA comes back to the members here one way or another.
There are some excellent local eateries available too. Some of the attendees from last year can chime in with the ones they found.
Last year Hargis and the fairground committee donated $1000 prize money for a poker shoot. That was EXCELLENT fun!!! It's amazing how fast you can get an old fat man to hustle for a few bucks and a chance to win a competition. We laughed till our sides hurt.
We have a little different idea this time and I'll be putting up a poll to see if this is doable. What Hargis has suggested is a 20 round shooting competition with a purse of $5000. But this year it will be a $50 per participant buy-in with 100 maximum number of contestants. There will be a 100% payout to the top 3 competitors. So, pay $50 for a chance at $5000? I'm in...how about you? Vote in the poll above.
We will also have our traditional paintball competition with trophies and hopefully cash prizes.
So, make your plans to attend. Make those reservations and travel arrangements. Practice your shooting and get ready for fun, food and great fellowship. It is a MOST EXCELLENT and great time. That's why we call it a FUN shoot!!!
Stay tuned to this thread for more information. And please vote in the poll above.
Hope to see you all there!!!SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!
