I'm looking for suggestions for a night vision monocular or similar to help me locate rats in my back yard. Here's my situation - my yard is about 40'X80', so fairly small, but I've made the most of it and it's heavily planted with trees and shrubs, and has a large deck and arbor. So the little so-and-so's have a million places to hide and travel around to avoid the lit areas. I've got two "target" areas I monitor often, but lately what happens is when I'm set up to watch one spot, I can hear them in a different part of the yard! I'm thinking if I could get something to let me see about 40' I could set up in the middle of the yard and scan for eyes. Anyone have any luck doing something similar?

So my setup isnt high tech or expensive. It doesnt do real well past 30 yards but works well inside of that.
I have a dashboard camera that I ordered from amazon (micro sd card, small screen, internal battery), a pipe coupling and plug from the hardware store, and an IR light.
Mounts to the back of the scope. It isnt heavy enough for extra support so it works pretty good. The internal battery only lasts about 30 minutes but you can run it off of a cell phone battery pack. All cost involved ~$80.
The IR Light was the most expensive item. If you have a couple lights in the yard, you might not even need it.
Off the subject, love your avitar. Looks like snuck over to my house and took a picture of my hound!!! :D

Sounds like my kind of setup. (I'm a notorious cheapskate). Can you post a picture?
Also, thanks for the compliment! That's my girl Natasha in the picture. She is daddy's girl and rat hunting partner. Best dog I ever had 😊

Hope the images come out. I havent had a chance to pull the trigger on anything at night but played with it a few times. My daughter's chicken coop is 30 yards away and i could tell one from the other easily.
From one "cheep skate" to another, amazon is your friend!
Max is the last picture. He doesn't hunt anything but snakes and the UPS man!

:D Looks Like A Great Set Up to Me...I Like It ! ;)

Thanks for the pictures. Good looking setup and a mighty handsome dog. You can tell just from the pic that's he's a good boy!

You should teach Max not to bother the UPS man or you may stop getting your AG goodies from his truck :)

Same type of ones I use, they work pretty good too. So far I have no complaints from them.

He really isnt that good at listening so I had to train the UPS man!!! I built a delivery box along my driveway that is high enough so the driver doesn't have to get out the truck.
They both love it 8)
