Title: Galatain deal
Post by: Rollo on April 18, 2017, 03:51:56 PM
If one were able to get a Hatsan Galatain for say $299.99 from a reputable on line retailer would it be considered a good deal???  Has the shrouded barrel but not the thumbhole stock.  Looking to replace my old Gen 1 Mrod.  Thoughts????

Curse you. Had to have one in .25 ...

The photos show the QE version but I bet it is the unshrouded flavor. I can cope for $400 off.

The Novas and the semi-autos are a bargain also.  Regards, Tom

.25 is no longer available at Midway.  It's not showing as an option for me anyway.  Only .177 and .22.

I paid $650 during a sale at Field Supply for the one I have (see avatar pic at left) so $300 is a screaming deal even if they no longer have them in .25...grab one before they run out if you're considering it.

It's midnight here on the east coast.

Looks like they only have the .177 caliber version left?

NOT FOR LONG!

I check midway for deals every now and then, couldn't believe my eyes on account of all the great deals on hatsan airguns. The Galatain is probably unshrouded, but even then still a great deal. I decided to go ahead and order an air stripper for it just in case.

No, the photo shows the shrouded version, and they usually sell what they show.
The gun they are selling has no open sights. The unshrouded Gallation comes with open sights.

I've got to take my name off the Midway direct mailing list!
Talked myself into buying one of these great bargains tonight!
Then, of course, I had to buy four more mags to go with it!
Found them at ebay.
$14.74 shipping on the gun, but free on the mags.
Everything delivered for $373.69!
This deal will definitely be in the running for "deal of the year" - and there's a whole lot of year left to go!

Just got off Midway site after placing my order.  Been wanting a .177 to add to my darkside and the Galatian has been on my shortlist.....this deal was too good to pass on! Hoping the QE pic is correct.

Well,,,, that was a disappointment.
My excitement and impulse buying nearly got me into a situation I would not have been as excited about upon delivery. Did some re-checking of product numbers and found that the Midway pic and the actual purchase product didn't match, was not the QE model on sale.  Order cancelled prior to shipping. ::)

Good eye on that one.  Yeah, was afraid that was the case.  So guess I'm thankful my internet went down just before I pulled the trigger on the .25.  But Midway is good about accepting returns if anyone is unhappy with the purchase.

No need to return it if you bought the 25 cal accidentally, list it in the classifieds as 300 plus shipping , it wont last long im sure

I am just glad the .25 was sold out.  I would 've bought it for sure, but I don't need any more guns so it's all good.  I came real close to hitting the button on the .22.  I had it in the Cart, but then just closed the browser and had to walk away from the PC.

Just curious, is the Galatian supposed to be pretty quiet/backyard friendly for those who own one or have shot it?

It's 1:00 pm here on the eastern coast, and I just got off the phone with customer service at MidwayUSA.
The rep there sent in a request for a product check to figure out exactly what version of this gun is that we're contemplating? He couldn't be sure either?
He did tell me that they only had about a dozen guns left.

For me, I can't see any reason to fret over shrouded or unshrouded?
Both versions are fantastic buys, and anyone who gets on should be able to turn a handsome profit reselling it if necessary!

The only differences that I can see is quieter gun/shorter barrel/no sights vs unquieted gun/shorter or longer barrel/open sights? Yes, different strokes for different folks, but in either case, no big deal differences and fine guns in their own right!

You're right about the fantastic buy at that price,, even for the un-shrouded model.  My reason for canceling my order was purely cosmetic, I like the look of the QE.  I'm fairly sure the barrel is threaded on the sale model and an ldc could be added from one of the many makers of ldc'.
The cs rep I spoke with this morning said Midway got a heck of a deal straight from Hatsan on these models, and he also added that the Galatian lll QE was available by special order,, which led me to believe Hatsan will no longer produce the basic unshrouded model.

I think they've already discontinued the open sighted model - maybe a year or more ago? It came out before the shrouded version.
My guess is that sales of the unshrouded version were far below those of the quieter gun, thus Hatsam might have had a large inventory of unshrouded slow selling guns and dumped them at MidwayUSA? Most probably that's why the price is so low?

I think my call resulted in action?
They've changed the picture on the item description page!
The gun they're selling is the unshrouded version and now they show the open sights!
I noticed that the description now includes a sling, a trigger lock, and a hard case! If that's true, the good deal got even better!
Title: Re: Galatain deal
Post by: deerflyguy on April 20, 2017, 09:38:15 AM
Looks like the deal really does include a hard case, as the tracking number they sent me shows an 18.40 lb. package. The gun weighs under 10 lbs., so the shipment indicates more than just the gun is coming.
At this price, I'm surprised that they have any of these left to sell?
The only thing I can figure is that buyers really do prefer the shrouded version, either that, or they don't like a PCP in .177 caliber?

Or for @ $200 more they can get what they want in a Marauder.. Quick fill adapter, less finicky magazine loader, less weight, wood stock, shrouded barrel, etc. Some features are very nice in the Galatisn IV and certainly make it worthwhile at Midway's fire sale price, for example the swappable air reservoir and adjustable butt plate.

Mine says "Out for delivery" ... will let you know what actually comes in the kit.

Ok, it is the non-QE version but does come in hard case with sling, spare mag and fill probe. Really nice bit of kit, feels like I am holding my Mossy 500 instead of an airgun. Action is smooth and first shot over the chrono was 934FPS with JSB .25 cals.

Had to mow and then went crappie fishing before dark ... more after I get to shoot it a bit.

UPS just dropped off my gun, and I'm very pleased with what I received!
Gun/sling/trigger lock/hard case, two mags, open sights w/removable rear sight for scope placement!
A fantastic buy and what a solid, hefty gun it is!
I was surprised to see that the cylinder is full of air to the red line, and the gun, being produced in March 2013, makes me wonder if it was filled back then and held it until now, or if for some reason it was sold and returned with air still in it?
I really don't believe that MidwayUSA filled it.
I suppose that Hatsan could have checked out the whole lot a second time before selling the guns to MidwayUSA, and just because the guns are four years old, they might have recently filled the cylinder to check out the "O" rings and to function test it?
In any case, it put a smile on my face when I saw what they sent me!
You guys who bought one, too, know what i'm saying, and those who didn't have IMHO really missed out!
