Very nice. Ya just have to love these Rugers. One of the best buys out there. Put a tune on it and they simply do everything a good air gun should, and they do it well, cheaply :D
-
That's a nice group. Good shooting.
-
Thank you both! I looked at the vortek kits but didn't want to spend $80 when the rifle was only $100. It shoots straight enough for me! When my duct seal is finished drying in my pellet trap I'll get some more accuracy results. Or if I go to the range tomorrow.
-
Nice shooting, and the gun looks sharp. Is the stock filled with expanding foam? Did it improve/help lower the sound?
thanks
John

That thing don't need no kit ;) Get a JM seal for a Diana 34 for $18.00, a tophat from Mike Melick for $15.00, clean the internals, lube with moly, put back together and enjoy. Mine will do dime groups at 25 yards all day. The handle is a nice touch.
-
No..it fell off and I hot glued it back on..lol (temp fix) Paul, have a liink?

JM seal- My mistake, the seal is only $10.00

Cool! I'll check into it. Thank you

Paul just what does a tophat do? I asked vortek about one and they said all I needed was a spring for my 34. ???

The Rugers have a thin steel sleeve in the piston that I suppose is meant to somehow help "align, smooth, guide" or in some other way assist the power plant. My experience, and that of others when I researched the problem, was that this sleeve does nothing for twang, and occasionally interferes with the cocking arm and causes grinding and inability to cock the rifle.
I spoke with Mike Melick, and he recommended removing the sleeve entirely and replacing it with a tophat since I already had mine apart and was installing a seal. The tophat keeps the spring centered so it does not contact the piston walls, allows the spring to twist much more easily as it compresses and uncompresses during the shot cycle, thus speeding up the cycle, improving harmonics, and reducing spring twang.
The spring in the Rugers is fine and is at least as strong as those in the 34's. No reports that I can find of premature breakage or weakening and power is very good. At least as good as the 34's. No reason to replace em.
My Ruger AH as I mentioned is now a sweet shooter. Where it was good before out of the box, with a basic debur, lube, sleeve removal and seal and tophat installation, it is a twang free performer. The target below is 15 shots at 25 yards shooting from the knee without a rest.
-
Mike told me that it smooths the gun out and takes the twang away. I'll probably get one. Not sure if I can install it myself though ??? And he said he prefers to use the stock seals as they provide a slight fps edge.
Johnny Z- you gave me an idea. I think today I'll take the buttplate off and fill the stock with expanding plumber's foam and see if it helps. Heck, if it doesn't I don't think that it will add much weight.
-
The exp. foam is great stuff just make sure you get the minimum exp. one or you'll have allot of foam coming out everywhere. and don't get that &^^& on your hands cause not even acetone will remove it, you'll be picking it off your fingers for a day with tweezers.
-
Filled it up earlier with whatever kind of stuff my dad had. It doesn't seem to have helped noise reduction but it wasn't totally dry when I fired it. I have a decibel app on my phone and the gun's loudest shot last night was 87. I'll see if it has helped tomorrow after it is completely dried.
Looks like I might give the gun a Mike Melick tune-up as it won't cost me much and everyone raves about his work. We'll see

Deadsquirrle, I just filled the stock on my X20s with the window/door expanding foam from HD, what a mess. I didn't do the handle portion, maybe I should drill a hole and fill it to. I'll probably get a chance later this week to put it back together and see if it sounds any different. Is that a Droid or Iphone decible app and does it work ok? I do most of my shooting in the basement, so, I get a sound bouncing off the walls, and I think it makes it sound louder.
Paul68, I think that is great shooting for 15shots @ 25yrds off the knee, I'd be thrilled with that.
Thanks
John

Thanks for the link, I have a droid also, will check it out.
Here is the low expansion foam I used:

I am still cleaning the excess foam, even with Acetone lots of scrubbing.
thanks again

I cleaned it up while it was still dry lol. Saved the mess. The gun is torn all apart. I'll probably just do a self tune of it as I like to know the inside and outsides of anything I use haha. If I do it myself it just makes the smile larger when I print good groups and know that I did all of the work.

Need help guys! I lube everything and went to reinstall it so I can have a pesting gun for this week. Will probably order seals and maybe a new spring soon. But anyways, I got pretty far and ran into a problem with the trigger/safety part. Does anyone have pictures of how this should be installed? Thanks.
Pics show the plastic safety piece and a metal piece that fell out. Also the rear end of the trigger assembly.

Near as I can tell, you're missing a spring.
-
I had the spring. It was in the trigger assembly part. I went to get it out and it went flying. Somewhere in the office. I'll find it. ATM I have most of the trigger assembly apart. While the gun is apart I'm probably going to buy a new seal and spring.

Link? Or email. I don't know all of these guys yet lol.

airrifleheadquarters.com will get you the site for JM.
