Thanks for posting this John. Saw it on the FT forum but have yet to respond. First off, I want to say it was a great time shooting with some really nice folks. As for the shooting itself, as the write up says I have been shooting a 30 FPE gun and that makes the wind seem almost non-existent. 12 FPE in gusty winds on a tough course like that was, well not great. There were several targets where I was holding completely off of the target in order to make the shot. A big thanks to David Slade for letting Brett and I use his guns. Mine was not quite set up correctly so I had further issues there. But for what it's worth, it was a great experience. I am relatively new to FT but everyone I have met has been more than accommodating in letting me try their guns. I have come to a decision on what I will be getting to get into 20 FPE PCP open class.
I think we got old Brett thinking about it as well. We will in all likelihood be heading to invicta in two weeks so if you want to tag along shoot me a message and I would be happy to work something out to help get you there. And if you need a shooter well that may be accommodated as well. Invicta was a much easier course than the Lazy W was so it would be a great place to try your hand at some FT. And remember, there will be food too!
Hopefully we can get more folks out for FT all over the place. While it may appear that FT folks are snobs because of their amazingly expensive guns, you couldn't be further from the truth. I have yet to meet a rude FT shooter. Heck Brett and I were handed $3000 guns to shoot without so much as a second thought. So please folks, if you are interested come on out and give it a look. And of you need any help getting there let me know.

Mr. John B to answer you question "what's it take to get more folks in FT". The answer is simple more reporting on when the matches will be. I can only speak of my experience trying to attend a FT match in TN at Mr. Ron place.
I decided to finally attend a Ft match in TN and looked on the Good Old Boys website to see when their next meet would be it, can't remember the exact date but maybe 2/3 months ago. I should have called to see if they were still going to hold the match but in between working and a family need i say more. So the day came that I headed from Birmingham,Al. to TN which is several hours away to only find out that the match was taking place somewhere else ( maybe Franklin) cant remember the exactly. Mr Ron neighbor the Black Lady that stays in the blue and white trailer right before you turn into his driveway give me name were everyone was a but me not being from TN fear I would never find my way. Mr. John B could you tell her I said: THANKS FOR HELP!!!
Mr. John B just keep us posted more often here on GTA. And if anything should happen that will change the date or place please let us know.
By the way tell Mr. Ron I really like his place. Target enriched environment ( doves as soon as drive up the driveway, deer running through the yard). Can't wait to shoot in a match!!!

If you're in BHam you need to join us for our monthly shoots in Heflin (I20 before Ga stateline). Our next shoot is the Dixie Double Tap, Georgia State Championship on Saturday 10/13 followed by the Alabama Championship on Sunday 10/14. $40 gets you in for both days of shooting with a great bunch of guys and a couple gals.

Mr. Sciguy that was the next place I'm coming to. I just know to call ahead because the Helfin website never seems to show any activity. The website tells that the range is open I believe just about every day but it never has a date for a match.
That's one of the reason that more don't come out, lack of information. I know how hard it is to keep up but if the people just keep other informed it would be lot better. I believe that the mods here and maybe over in the yellow forum would not mind if someone with the correct data posted about up coming events and any unexpected changes.
By the way, thanks Mr. Sciguy but will have to see about the date for the match. I hope I can attend

Thanks John for posting. I don't know where the results of the match were posted but it was a great time. Yes the rain persisted on and off. Several people tried to start but were driven back in by the rain. I understand that in the UK they shoot rain or shine according to David Slade, president of the Invicta FTC. He was so gracious when he just handed Tyler and I a couple of guns worth 3K each to shoot the match with. I don't know that I would be so willing to expose a rig worth several thousand dollars to the elements but these folks were ready to shoot!
This was my first time shooting and was given a 12lb gun that seemed to literally lob the pellets out to the 55 yard targets. I can say that my gun was set up range numbering wise and the misses were my fault and not the gun. I needed a knee pad that I didn't think to bring to rest the gun on while ranging making it difficult to hold the rifle and turn the objective lens at the same time given the rolling nature of the course. However, David had this rifle dialed in! They told us we did very good. I'll have to take their word for it.
I have to extend a great amount of gratitude to Tyler for helping me overcome my disabilities by helping me into and out of firing positions and carting most of the gear between us from one station to another. Thanks Tyler. Everyone was very accommodating and quick to offer advice and suggestions. I just got that feeling of being welcomed and accepted into the group right off.
Despite the weather I had a great time and met some great folks who just really love to shoot. My kind of people! I'm still a bit sore from all the up and down and the walking but I might try to get up there Saturday before they take down the LazyW setup. I will for sure be at the next Invicta FTC match. If you are the least bit interested in FT shooting,...get out there and give it a shot, or 60.
There is a long list of folks that I would like to thank but am afraid I don't know them well enough to not forget someone. I am learning though! Thanks to all in attendance for a very pleasant first time FT experience.

Brett I had a great time and I am glad I got to share the experience with you. I really enjoyed it. And I don't mind doing some extra weight lifting to have a good time shooting my friend!
