Grinding gritty feel

My 95QE developed a grinding feel while cocking. I though that the first time that I felt this that it was my imagination so I cocked it 2 more times with the same feel.
I put a couple of drops of STP lubricant on the cocking leaver at the barrel and tried to get a couple of drops down on the opposite end of the cocking leaver. It is no longer making any kind of grinding and feels very smooth.
What could have been causing this and is there anything else that I need to do other than shoot the gun and have fun?

The end of the cocking arm just rides in a machined slot in the piston and it's never lubed very well. A light coat of moly on both the end of the cocking arm and that slot usually solves the problem and can be done by just taking the action out of the stock.

Thanks. If the problem returns I may take the stock off and do a better lube. For now it seems that the STP ran where it was needed.

I'm always leery of any oil type lubes because if they get inside the compression chamber and run enough to get in front of the piston seal, it can cause dieseling which can potentially damage that seal if it happens too much.
