Reason for my post is that I picked up the Hatsan 95 to give my father to shoot and have been checking it on the chrono with some 10.5 gr. Premiers and they are only running in the 730 - 750 FPS range. Sounded a bit slow to me, I'm also not much of a springer shooter.

Premiers and they are only running in the 730 - 750 FPS range. Sounded a bit slow to me, I'm also not much of a springer shooter. You say picked-up- assuming this was a recent purchase? My 95QE shot faster once broken in- more penetration etc. Also those pellets are more than 2 grains heavier than the ones outlined by Steve. Should be ballpark close in total FPE, though. Crosman 10.6 at those speeds are still pushing 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 FPE- and in a non-broken-in-gun that's not far off. And if you are shooting outside, the colder temperatures might have some bearing (not much) on the gas-piston. I know my Hatsan shoots a little slower judging by penetration into cedar boards. I also recommend doing a tissue test on the breech seal (lay a piece of TP or tissue paper over the breech and fire a shot. If the tissue puff up, you got a leaky seal). As far as not being much of a springer-shooter- that should have no bearing on how fast the pellet go.
Hatsan uses real lead pellets although lightweight ones so the fps numbers being shot with them are usually close to the advertised fps ratings. The numbers your rifle is getting are lower than what they should be so if not the breech seal, it might well be a slightly undersized piston seal. If they thought the piston seal looked good when they did the refurb and didn't replace it, it might well be why your numbers are low.If you have some 8-ish grain pellets, maybe shoot some over the chrony and see what kind of numbers you get and maybe call the guys at AGPS, tell them what you're seeing and see what they say..again just me but even for 10-ish grain pellets, that seems slower than it should be.
Has anyone run their Hatsan 95 Vortex .177 over a chrono? If so what velocities did you get with weights in the 7, 8, and 10 grain range? I assume Hatsan uses a 7ish gr. pellet for their advertised 1000 FPS. Just wondered how much you lose with the increase in weight.
AND YOU WERE RIGHT AGAIN! as ALWAYS! Best Regards - Tom
I'm thankful for all the input that everyone has put out so far. I didn't want to put anyone through a bunch of work just to find out if my rifle was normal. I'm amazed at the passion the community has for expanding knowledge of all things airgun! This is a great forum!
Work?? What is this "work" you speak of?? No work here, this is fun...lol. Not that I ever need an excuse to go shoot but I get to have some fun, help out a bit and it also adds to my notebook on rifles, pellets used, fps numbers, which considering 19 rifles is growing and depending what kind of numbers I get, I might have another pellet to try for the last step which is groups and accuracy....work?? ppffffttttt...lolol
