Baracudas give me fine groups sometimes and other times shotgun pattern. I'm not sure why. I'll have to test them more. Gamo hunters give me better consistency than baracudas. Those are only two pellets that give me any accuracy, all other look like shotgun. I might try H&N Field target trophy but only 500pcs boxes are available here and they are expensive. Also firearm hold works much better tan artillery hold and gun is very hold sensitive.
Teflon lubes might be god but not mixable with petroleum lubes and also very expesive and that's what I don't like about them. I think some bicycle chain dry teflon lubes might work because solvent evaporates leaving unconustible film... hmm needs to be tested though.
There is also tungsten disulfide which is pretty much same as moly disulfide. I thing I'll go rather with moly. Anyone tried graphite?
Buttoning sounds like good idea because piston is heavy and slams hard. I did not weighted it but hand held it felt around half kilo or so. I was shooting old mod 85 the other day and it seemed to me that it has aluminum piston or something alike but much lighter than mine steal pig. I don't have button material and it is some work and I'm not sure if i would get anything significant. I'll thing about it more.

Way to stick with it Josh. I hope it shoots as accurate as you hope for.

Did some more tuning today. I cut 5 more coils. Measured wire thickness more carefully. It is about 3,1mm. Now spring is about 30cm long and has around 42 coils. It is about 9 coils shorter than out of the box. Put some plastic bottle buttons on piston outside and plastic sleeve inside as SpiralGroove advised. Everything fits tigt now, maybe even toot tight. Washed trigger in oil. It is light and crisp once again.
I fired a few shots. There is less recoil and twang. Gun lost some power. I did few test shots at my wood board benchmark. Spiked pellet now gives less penetration than wadcutter did before, but it still has good power. I'll have to fire a couple of hundred shot till everything breaks in properly. I will test accuracy soon. I hope it gets improved because I am running out of tune ideas.

Did some shooting at about 30 yards today. There was some wind various directions. I did not count pellets. Most went into 1 inch group and a lot of flyere. 4,9 gram gamo hunter pellet.

Did some target shooting in my garage at about 10 yards distance. Here's the result. It's worth mentioning that I was not in best shooting mood and a few flyers are due to my fault. Scope fell apart also. Tried to glue it but I don't think it'll hold long. Artillery hold works best now. So it is true that the factory spring was way too long and overpowered. After cutting about 8 or so coils gun performs much better now. I was also in one local shop and bought Hatsan original spring for a bargain price and got original piston seal gratis. Spring is 42 coils 3,2mm wire OD 19,2mm exactly like one out of the box but with less coils. I did not install it yet.

Tuning goes on. Sized transfer port From 4mm to 3.3mm. Gun lost maybe just a little bit of power and recoil is lower now. Scope broke into pieces. Recrowned again. Brass screw method did not went well. Much better results with round carbide drill bit. Did some shooting offhand with iron sights. Gun appears to be very accurate. Hitting bottles at 50m+ distance offhand no problem now.

Long range shooting with iron sights really does seem to be accurate. Bushnell 3-9 x40 scope should come in a few days and I'll do some bench rest testing then. Recoil difference is night and day. Out of box gun was kicking so hard It gave me blue swellings on shoulder after firs tin of pellets. I had to worry not to put cheek too close to stock cos it would slap me hard. Now there is still some recoil but I can rest my cheek freely on stock and can't even feel slap. I Think 0.2mm plastic sleeve inside piston is too tight and it is robbing gun of some power. Plastic buttons are maybe also a little to tight. After I inserted plastic sleeve gun actually gain some more twang. When I open gun next time replace it with beer tin can sleeve.

Mounted scope and did some indoors shooting. Still not satisfied with accuracy. Sometimes three pellets stack one ontop other and fourth goes one cm aside. I don't know is it hold or lousy shooting bench in my garage or gun itself. Original factory 42coil 3,2mm wire Hatsan spring is now in it plus about 3mm of additional washers. It is under quite significant preload. Most replacement springs, like Titan or Vortek have less coils. Stroke is 100mm so I assume there should not be so much preload. Next time I open it I'll chop off a 1-3 coils. Piston is heavy, have not weighted it but i think it is over 400g, wondering if lightening it would give me any improvement.
Also tried muzzle weight. I put 8cm long steel pipe on muzzle. This gave me no improvement and about 5cm lower point of impact.
I want this thing stacking pellets in my garage range.

Sized transfer port to 3,5mm, shortened spring from 41 to 37 coils and 28cm free length with spacers has about 30mm of preload, removed sleeve from piston. Breech seal leaks air when muzzle is closed and piston hand pressed, gona change it too. Later I'm going to put it back together and see how it does.

I thing I finally got this thing to shoot accurate. Transfer port is back to original and spring is 40 coil. Likes H&N baracuda best. But it is a scope killer. Don't even think mounting scope that's cheaper than gun itself. Three scopes went down. Las was nikko striling 3-9x40. It held perfect zero for about 100 shots. Then it started to shift zero each shot.

It has been a while since i updated topic.
I was able to get decent accuracy at my 72m range. With baracudas I could get 5-6cm five shoot groups. But still i was not satisfied with recoil and shot cycle. So i decided to take some drastic measures. Sleeved down compression tube from 27 to 24 and lighened piston from 350 to 183. Piston is now rotating. Everything works well and recoil is very low. However I have not overcome some issues yet. Sleeve tube leaks somewhere and it is not uniform. I am waiting for new tube sleeve.

Been shooting it on my 10m range little while. Consistency is improved especially with lighter pellets. There is also less poi shift with different pellets. FTT's are most accurate now. Baracudas are same as before, still very good. Annoying spring buzz is still present, probably because spring guide is not tight enough. Recoil is low and there is very little sight picture movement. It fells kind oh hollow. Probably need change piston weight or preload. Piston seal is too short and that leaves space for some empty volume. Makes power easy. Shot cycle is nice, not to snappy. Recoil is low. No dieseling. But there is a clunk sound like knocking on hollow plastic. It may be coming from plastic stock thou I did fill it wit silicone long ago.
