picked up a gun at a yardsale for 35 bucks , its a silver streak , but has no serial numbers , says racine wisconsin and has a safety that has ridges and is in back of gun, it has what appears to be a scope rail , gun doesnt hold air but looks pretty clean and has nice rifling in barrell , any way to tell what year it is without serial number?

Yes. You have the thumb safety version. Its pre-1964. Probably 1952-1963.
There is/was a website out there that had details, maybe someone else has it?
Think it was something like:
http://my.tbaytel.net/
??
There were changes in the design so you could narrow it down to 1-2 years, in the above 11 year period.

My Grandfather has a 312 with the thumb safety, hardly hold air, but I managed to kill a squirrel right above me with one to the head

Before rebuilding it, try a few drops of oil in the compression chamber and let it sit muzzle up over night. Many of them have been resurrected this way.
