Hatsan 95 Vortex or Crosman Nitro Venom?
«

I am looking to buy a .22 break barrel gun finally and am looking for the best combination of power, weight, accuracy, and price. Two that are coming up on the radar are the Hatsan 95 Vortex and the Crosman Nitro Venom. Does anyone here have experience with both of them to offer a comparison? Is there an even better model to consider? Thanks.

I've never seen a Hatsan but have very extensive experience with the NItro Venom. After you replace the trigger with a GRT III, replace the seal with one from Air Rifle Headquarters, figure out the correct pivot washer thickness, get a decent scope, and a set of adjustable mounts it's a respectable shooter.
It will shoot out of the box but with the original trigger it's difficult to impossible to shoot accurately. The trigger job is a must. The rest is fine tuning which may or may not need done.
In any case, Crosman DOES stand behind their products.

I think it depends on how much work you arewilling to perform. Out of the box, vortex 95 wins, IMO, especially because of the stock trigger. I will say, with some practice, as RW mentioned, the Venom can be good. I did not replace trigger but enjoy that rifle very much. My 95 is in .25, so I shoot open sights but I have a 125TH in .22 that shoots very well out to distances beyond 30yd, but that is a springer. I got my venom new, on deal, for $149, but consider it a much better value. The 95 was the same, nicer stock and trigger out of the box. The venom has a smaller stature for what its worth, but neck in neck.

Hatsan 95 (.22 cal.) Springer
- $159 or less. Save the $50 and buy a decent Hawke or Leapers 3x9x40 scope. Keep in mind that for the $$, you will have to make minor mods. on both guns to get them nice.
On the Hatsan 95
:
1) New piston seal from AH - $12
2) Tune the trigger - $1 + elbow grease
3) Put pipe tap or dental floss under breach seal to make proud.
4) Full tune recommended on both. - $30 for AGH lube & various grits of paper.

Thanks for the information, gentlemen. I am opening up to considering springers now and doing so leaves the door open to other models like the HW95 and the Webley Tomahawk. All in the same range of weight from 7.4-8 lbs and in the same general power range. I must say I like the look of the Tomahawk best..
